everything should be balanced where possible. excessive vibration on wheels can cause premature bearing failure and other undesirable handling characteristics such as a weave if bad enough - and they can be scary
I see what your saying re the chain but it does not compleat a full revolution so could never be balanced I'd also agree at 10g the effect would be small however if the fitters are not checking them you would never know how far out it is? Bit like some of my mates who refuse to map bikes saying it feels fine, how do you read an AFR through your ass/butt dyno I say to them....lol
Why would it make sense to balance a crank, which is a constant rotating mass but not the rear wheel, I know it doesn't rotate when you not moving, but it is still a rotating mass when moving and quiet a fast large one at that Cranks are very often (on jap bikes) connected to the cam shafts via a chain too we still balance the crank A out of balance wheel could easily be 60 grams out of balance, if not checked how would you know How out of balance would you expect one link of a chain to be from best to worst I would be surprised if there was 1 gram difference Just seems like a really strange thing not to do it. This is one point where I would say adding weight is going to improve the vehicle where normally we spend money on light weight exotic materials :smile: in an attempt to reduce weight The reasoning sounds all wrong, why balance anything if you can't balance the chain, why the crank would make a difference but not the wheel? :redface:
