998 Track Bike

  3. Not a man whos great with his hands, so would take twice as long as a normal 'man'

    Got welding gear just never got round to really trying to do it properly. Would live to make a wheel stand for my spare wheels, as well as a few other functional things
     
  4. 999 Uses CAN wiring I believe so it is totally different to a 998. The 998 loom is a one off and not like any of the other 748-9*6 looms.
     
  5. yes its different to the early archaic stuff but not impossible to use on a 998 dependent on dash of course....

    there are also 'race' looms advertised on ebay but around the 600 euros mark....
     
  6. Based on the ecu and its plugs sitting so far out and therefore vulnerable, anybody got any pointers as to best positioning for it, and if any sort of one off bracket needed?
     
  7. The plugs normally get torn off in an accident, you can buy new plugs on an aftermarket basis I think I have seen them for about £29. If you are cutting the loom up you could relocate them and the ECU or consider putting a shield over the plugs to protect them a bit.
     
  8. i jus bought an SES race fairing bracket it was more money that the ricambi weiss one (110 delivered) but is nicely made and has flats for dzeus fasteners

Haven't got much today electricity was turned off on our industrial estate for vital works. anyway here's some bits iv'e made for the fairing stay. if i had know about Pierobon i might have bought there's but i bet its a pretty penny, there's little features i like about it so building those into my adapted stay, hopefully get it done tomorrow IMG_0139.jpg I have remade the main part that bolts to the frame, the German one was really slack IMG_0140.jpg Removing some metal save some weight and make it look less industrial IMG_0141.jpg Replaced the square box section for some tube, just getting fitted up ready for welding tomorrow, i added another part to the jig that shows where the original clocks was positioned, i'm not putting the clocks back here but its just there as a guide so I don't go back to close to the screen

  12. Just finished for the night, got the front fairing brackets done, had lots of silly little problems with the tig set that realy mucked me up, gas leak and sticking switch and then the wobbly tooth

    I remade the clock mount plate changed the square tube of the original to round as i felt more in keeping with the rest of the bike, i also changed the top of the fairing stay arms so that I chould use dzus fastners

    Got the Ignition switch loom/lead made up, so its a plug it and play thing and made a little mounting bracket
    so it could mount on one of the rear subframe fixings, its accessible and tucked away enough that nothing should catch it accidently

    Found a place on the fairing bracket for the map sensor and pulled

    And pulled a chunk of broken tooth out of my head

    Ill be doing a little bit more tonight, ive been putting it off, but goto try fitting the fairing, theres no holes in it, the fit is really bad and it was never meant to go on this bike, so dont think its going to look great

    However it is carbon fiber so nice strong and nice and light

    Think the tooth pulling has left people in shock lol, i felt a bit faint but the rage was building as my tig plant really mucked me about

    Ill post some pics later with how i got on
     
  15. Got a little interupted and thus havent got very far with the fairing fitting

    I can come to conclusion don't buy anything cheap for your ducati, you will just be disapointed like i am

    I bought some so called cheap dzus fixing from ebay there not real ones look nice but they are crap, it would be quicker to use a nut and a bolt the time spent mucking about with them

    anyway hacked big lumps off fairing its not fitted yet but no far off, think ill wait till i get more real dzus fixings

    I would say it will fit once i cut a section out for side stand, yep im keeping sided stand for now

    The vents on side are cut out and clear all coils

    The carbon fiber fairing is real nasty, if it wasnt carbon i would have binned it buy now, molding is crap, its trimmed back to much where nose cone joins side panels so fixing holes are ripping out to edge

  16. Ok I got new skill i'm chuffed with myself

    I can now change my own tyres, id done tyres on off road bikes quite a few times, and it all became easy when i borrowed a mates tyre levers, i never wanted to give em back but sadly had to

    Anyway because i planned on fitting the dymag wheels with there carbon fiber rims I had a problem, they had some bridgestone hisports on them which i never liked but i couldnt find a tyre place that i was happy with letting at my rims, some said they would change em for fear of damaging them too

    So I looked on the you tube and see a few videos and people was using some kit and seemed to look very easy with it so i got one off the ebay IMG_0176.jpg i also bought a balancing tool, and a set of the fancy leavers and rim protectors loads of stuff
    IMG_0169.jpg IMG_0175.jpg IMG_0177.jpg Any way in conclusion, the fancy red tyre changer kit wasn't really needed i tried it but seemed a little brutal, the bead braker on the bottom was fantastic, but i could have easily made on to be honest and probably the whole key to being able to get the tyres off easily

    The long and short of it was i used the rim protectors and the curved levers, note with very little pressure or straining to get the tyres off, whole key to it if your thinking about trying yourself, is breaking the bead and getting the bead of the tyre in the center of the rim, this gives loads of slack to the tyre on the opposite side so you can easily lever over the rim, IMG_0166.jpg IMG_0167.jpg IMG_0168.jpg new tyre on balancer
    Rear was as easy maybe even easier IMG_0172.jpg IMG_0171.jpg the tyres i fitted was pirelli diablo supercorsa bsb scrubs well cheap off ebay oh yeah and that tyre paste is the muts nuts

    Loads of people came in whilst I was figuring it all out and got the be cheaper to get fitted wont it comment, well id say maybe, but when you factor in the amount of time I have sat in tyre shops and journeys getting there and back again, id say not, and cost wise you dont need the big red tool you can get just a bead breaker for about £30 I think or make one out of wood, the balancer was £35 delivered, Tyre levers £15, Tyres £100 they have done 14 Laps of oulton park, still got bobbles on from where they was cast.   17. I got the new mono seat undertray today, this looks correct, will fit it later then my arse wont be so exposed:tongue: IMG_0179.jpg Mono above, Bip below, the big difference is the front mounting holes
