New Yamaha MT-09

  1. Personally i think it looks like a parts bin special. The motor sounds useful though.

  2. Shove a belly pan on it and a descent paint job and I reckon it'll be a winner.

  3. The Yam looks good on paper, they will be on to a winner if they have managed to capture the flickable fun of the Trumpet.

the Street R is an absolute riot, they will have their work cut out to beat it

  4. First Jap bike in a while that I would like to test ride. I have a Speed Triple and the Mrs has the Street and I think the Yam would need to be very good indeed to persuade us to change.

  5. I think it's prettier than the street triple

  6. I must admit I like it :upyeah:

  7. I had a quick test ride yesterday through Wigan Yamaha.
The bike is a devil in disguise... absolutely a treat with its engine, that is so violently powerful, it make you lift the front when acceleration over a chip on the tarmac...
The clutch is like the softest butter i've ever cut a knife through - you can operate with 2 fingers only with ease.
Handling is just superb; only minutes after i got up on it, i felt how i could throw it through corners.
The 3 modes are easy to set, easier than on Multistrada. B-mode is a bit better than the Multi's Urban, Standard seems just right - despite what have been said (written) in some other reviews.
A-mode is like the good Aprilia's Sport mode - sensitive, but max throttle. To my knowledge is power delivery the same in all three modes, though B-mode comes more slowly in the lower part of the range.

    Pro's:
Everything, except where the lock for seat have been placed (Underneath arm for numberplate mount)
    Extremely competitive price.
Brilliant for commuting in through cities

    Con's:
    Your license.
You'll turn on the hazard light too easy without discovering it, when you try to jiggle with the modes.
    Colour scheme could be better

  8. I don't think I would keep my license, however I am tempted to test ride one. I really like them

  9. Didn't a bike test rider say it's a pity the throttle is jerky when opening up after a shut or steady throttle and that the sport mode is no good in town traffic? Just mentioning.

  10. The BMW F800R (which is also on my list for the next purchase) suffers the same problem, which if you live in city like me is a really pain.

  11. A bloke I know test-rode one and was raving about it. The specs look good and so does the price, this'll be a big seller.

But the fact it's the most disgusting looking contraption since the fuglystrada is putting me off slightly...

  12. I think its got potential, like Drinky says add a belly pan and paint job it'll be half there, I reckon at that price with that kind of engine you'll find it'll become a very customisable bike. Give it a year or so and they'll probably be a good scene for mods on this bike and a good following.

i reckon by the time you've added different bars n risers, dumped the mirrors, added an exhaust etc etc it'll really start to come together

  13. Yeah, that is Neeves from MCN.
If you follow other reviews, they mostly mention the A-mode, which i found as well.
After riding the Multi in Sport mode most of the time, i se only tiny little difference to the Std-mode on the MT.
When it gets fruity, you probably do want the quick throttle response, no matter if it is through town environment or on country roads - but i also see, that you just forget you have the option, and let it stay in Std-mode (or which ever you prefer) and then just leave it there.

Honestly, i don't see the problem with the modes. They are like this on other bikes, too.

  14. If ever a bike needed a burkha, this is the one...

  15. It's just exceedingly DULL looking. Like they were trying to make an anonymous bike. Doesn't look modern. Doesn't look retro. Doesn't particularly look like any other bike, and yet it doesn't look particularly different to any other bike...

    What's the opposite of a 'head-turner'? :)

  16. I completely disagree, I think it looks really fresh and I can just imagine owning one, it would completely suit my needs plus I love the looks. As we know everyone likes different things!

  17. Have you been to the opticians lately..?

  18. You have a point, I have to stick my specs on the top of my head when I read, so perhaps a visit might help!!

  19. They've tried their best, bless 'em, with the banana swingarm, funky downpipes, waisted seat, etc, but none of it comes together. Each had it's own designer, and they obviously didn't want each other to find out what they were up to. Every now and then the japs come out with a stunner.

    Not this time:eek:
