1098s or new 848 evo

  1. going to buy a new bike looking at a 1098s or the new 848 evo ltd edition. Mainly want it for road use what would be the best ????

  2. Honestly, everyone will have an opinion but I have ridden both the 848 and panigale and ended up buying the 848 because I feel like I can worry about the corner and not the engine. The panigale just felt like it wanted to wheelie everywhere!

I appreciate that a 1098 may be somewhere in between but I would say u will have more fun and have more confidence on an 848 evo corse. It has traction control if that's important and the bigger fuel tank.

  3. Thats the problem my past bikes have been R1,Blades and iam using a z1000 2012 plate at momment so not sure if there is going to be enough power in the 848

  4. Its a different kind of power, and a more involved ride. Its not all about the top line power look at the 848 challenge boys, the lap times are only a few seconds shy of the BSB boys.

  5. Yes mate I agree just dont know if the 848 will have the same low down power !! The 1098s should be miles better however I still like the 848

  6. Both bike are great and you'll never be able to use all the power on the road of either....ever
Its a case of money and condition. Personally I went for the 1098s for the trick bits

  7. The 848 will whoop the Z1 I know as I have had both at the same time, speedo wise the 848 will just kill it! Where you will pull 100 on the Z you will be at 140 on the 848, grunt well I have a blade also and my 848 makes it feel flat bottom end! The 1098 is nothing like the 848 it has monster grunt and IMO likes to float the front wheel with quick throttle openings as much as. I love to wheelie the 848 is much more involving bike to ride, I rode both the 1098 and 848 and could have purchased whatever but choose the 848, that was back in 08 and I still love it now!

    Trick bits? On a "standard" S? What trick bits....lol ;) :) :D

  11. Now you KNOW the score....lol

Its a shame but 99.9% of new bikes on the showroom floor are standard?? lol are they not....lol Even a D16RR is standard unless you up spec it... Ha Ha..

  12. Ohlins forks, shock and steering damper mainly

  13. Standard mate...lol S model... and OEM Ohlins, only nitride coated where you can see for example ;)

  14. I tried the 848 and found I wanted more power ( I felt my sp1 was much better for overtaking etc ) so ended up with the 1098s. would I like even more power? yes. do I need more power ? no. but with the 1098 I have the choice to use it or not. if im lazy I can short shift and enjoy myself.

  15. and whatever you end up with spend time setting it up as the factory settings are in my opinion crap.

  16. Very true, I agree at least it's there if you want it! but the two bikes are very different to ride IMO. I think the engine forms a large part of its character? And if your weak like me the 848 is much more fun ripping up and down the box and lighting up the dash like its Christmas lol

  17. and if your 15 stone like me you are happier with the 1098.

  18. The 848 won't leave you wanting more power I wouldn't have thought. I've got a 1050 Speed Triple and it feels slow in comparison to the 2013 848 SE.....especially once the Ducati gets over 7k revs....it just takes off!

Having said that, as with all bike choices....ride both and make your own choice.

    Good luck
