Just got myself a '07 1098s with 5k miles which has been added to my small collection. I'll be using it mainly for trackdays but will be going to next years TT on it. It came with 70mm system and DP slipper clutch. The list of goodies and work is quite large. Suspension to be sorted by Richard at Maxton, rearsets to be sourced, fairings made by a great guy in Cheshire, PC3, clip ons, spare wheels, etc, etc. Very excited about using a Ducati on the track after years with an in-line 4, which although were very good they had no sole. Any advice is most welcom. Will post pictures and updates as it develops.
Don't bother with a pc3. Waste of time. Get the ecu directly remapped by someone such as CJS. Far better results. Nice cel bike to have as a track bike though
Thanks for the advice. I've looked at their website and will be calling them once I'm ready to get the bike setup.
Does anybody know much about SCM rearsets for the 1098? They look good and are a good price. Is it worth altering the gearing?
Have no experience with SCMs, but I went for Metaltech Racing rearsets which are pretty good, not as good as gilles thou
^ what Matt said. Gilles are the best imo. I have them on both my ducks. At least you can buy spares easily via calsport for the gilles stuff. Which is nice after my gear selector fell off on the M25 after I forgot to tighten it up properly when I adjusted it for new boots. Ever ridden the M25 in 2nd gear only? Nearly lost me fillings.
I had a set of Gilles on my 999r which I thought were great; however when the bike developed a gearbox problem when I selected down to 1st from 2nd the gear lever was stuck in the down position preventing 1st gear being selected and not engage 1st gear. When I took the bike JHP to sort the gearbox out they refused to do anything due to the fact I had fitted Gilles rearsets and blamed those for the gearbox issue. I replaced the Gilles for Migliore at great expense which I also like but was not surprised that the gearbox still had the problem. With the bike out of warranty I took it back to JHP hoping they would honour the initial warranty claim. They did no such thing and found a fault with a gearbox selector fork. Was I impressed with JHP. Not a chance.
The purchases are coming thick and fast now. So far I've got a set of Gia Moto rearsets, carbon hugger, race fibreglass seat unit and I did go for a pc3, mainly as it works well on my 9R. I took it oulton last week just to have it noise tested. 104Db without baffles and 102-103Db with the baffles fitted. Too close for comfort so I'm going to repack the cans. HPK discs and a set of wheels next.
Thats a schoolboy mis-diagnosis. Blaming the rearset is like blaming a shoe for polio. The db killers work well on my 1198 term's.
