  1. the seat height is a bit to high for me being a bit short in the leg department how do you set the rear shock preload correctly, hoping to loose some seat height any ideas or advice?

  2. Setting the preload CORRECTLY will not make it any lower. Instep risers and using one leg when you stop are you required techniques. :upyeah:

  3. instep risers ? the one foot thing is fine but dont make me feel happy

  4. And Happy is sad about that :frown:.

Seriously, setting the sag for your weight (15-20mm IIRC???) will give you a pointer as to whether it is still too tall. Persisting with the one leg syndrome will keep the bike sweet handling though

  5. As a bloke who's been one legged forever, its the way forward :upyeah: Read the link its a good source

  6. an inch will do it  for me ,not sure the wife will be happy but hey ho.

  7. Preload isn't the answer, either shorter shock or ride height linkage depending whats avaible. And keep front and rear in balance or its like riding a bike from Easy Rider

  8. Like wot bradders says.......

Fit a shock from a carbed SS; and poke the top of the front forks through the yoke more.........and, check the front tyre profile.........if a 70 is fitted, you will find a 60 will drop the front a lot.....

Failing all that, whack 1.5" out of the seat...........

FYI..........Static sag at the rear is approx 10mm and rider sag approx 20 - 25mm..........

Looking at an IE manual, it says the standard spring length is 176mm..............I'm assuming that means preloaded length with no load on the shock.

  9. As Arquebus said, do what I did and buy a seat cover off fleabay (nice leather one in black + red, looks bit monoposto) then lop a couple of inches out the foam, recover and hey presto!
Must admit I was surprised how tall the ie supersports are compared to older Dukes :O

  10. Or just unstaple the existing cover as far back as the hump bit; use a big black spirit marker and mark out where you want the foam removed; then grab an angle grinder and get to work....................gently....you only have to touch the foam......

......then loads of Evo Stik, a staple gun and some sweat is needed.............
