Ok Chaps, Ducati have agreed that my 2012 dash is FUBAR and a replacement has arrived and is ready to be fitted. I have discussed with Riders the issue of not being able to pre-set the mileage to that of the original. They still state that it can't be done. I tend to disagree, surely this is a digital display and with the aid of a computer I could put my flippin date of birth on it if i so wished. This cant be so hard to do.............. Has this technology passed Riders by????:smile:
It must be possible for an input signal to advance the mileage counter forwards, since that is what is happening the whole time the bike is moving. They may well have made it very difficult to set the mileage backwards, since that is a legal requirement isn't it?
Don't quote me on this but I thought the problem was caused by the tie up between the display and ECU. If a 2013 ECU was fitted it has the capability of having the mileage indicated changed pre 13 ECU's don't have that facility.
Dealers only have the ability to input the mileage on 2013 models. Scorpio electronics said they can do it, but they said they need to cut into the back of the clocks to access the bit of the circuit board
Ok, Thanks for that info, It is very helpful. Unlike Ducati if you dared to buy a bike before 2013 it seems. I just don't understand? Why would you do that? Why use a completely digital dash that you can't modify? I understand the issue of clocking but I bet someone has found a way to do that..Oh and I'd rather not have a hole in the bask of a brand new dash, I wonder how long this one will last???
My local dealers had a pre 2013 dash lying around which they tried to 'open' with out success. It broke into little pieces. Have my replacement one ready to fit at next service. :frown:
I dont understand why you would have to 'open' it, it is nothing more than a screen and circuit board surely. I would have thought a computer attached to it would have done the job??
A guy on DucatiMS wound the mileage on his replacement dash to match the mileage his old one by connecting a frequency generator to the input from the speed sensor and providing a 5V a square wave signal. Can't remember the frequency he used.
The interface to that circuit board (the connector) does not allow you to alter the mileage, which is why you need to open it up and connect directly to the memory on the circuit board and alter the mileage setting. It's a bit like asking why you can't type on the screen through the cd drive on your computer... The easy way is to rig up a signal onto the wheel speed sensor line and fool the ecu into thinking the bike is moving, thus the mileage will go up. You then disconnect the signal to stop increasing the mileage.
Ok, Thanks for all the input, clearly I am an electrical numpty and I will put up with it as it is.........Shame Ducati couldn't fit one that works and stays working.
They opened it (I think) out of curiosity to see if the little lights could be fixed. As my neutral & r/h/indicator lights are now on a long holiday!! You know what these mechanics are like when they get curious. They DIDN'T use a rubber mallet

I'd be interested to hear any feedback/comments on the process from anyone that's given it a go..........maybe someone has refined/modified the routine? Just about to have a new Dash for my 2010 bike, the 3rd!.....so unless I do the above I'll have 3 sets of mileages to tot up to have the actual mileage.....and of course the mileage will remain out of sync with the service schedule. ......can't believe that Ducati don't have a solution!! I read above that 2013 bikes onward do have an update that allows Ducati techs to input a set mileage - anyone confirm if this is actually so? ....would it take a physical change to the ECU?.....surely it's just a software update?
