Rossi retiring?

  1. Its a myth. You have more weight to hail up so have to start earlier, and these guys can tune in more or less front bias for grip as they choose. And Redding hasn't been doing to well second half of the season...2 simple rules: in a fight a good big one will always beat a good small one, and in a race where something is ridden a good small one will always beat a good big one

  2. And yet Pedrosa has never been champion.

  3. Because the others, as a package, are better. Ian has it for me above. Rossi was the best package for a fair number of years, rider, bike, tyres bit like Stoner on the ducati that year. And until his last year at Yamaha Pedrosa wasnt in the same league. Then pedrosa gets better, or rossi drops off performance wise, and Jorge comes stronger than pedrosa. Rossi isnt what he was. But he's still better than everyone else except 3 riders

  4. Ok, let's say that's all true.

Let me re phrase to something more meaningful and readily identifiable.

Why don't we see Pedrosa passing everybody on the long straights.

He has the benefit of a tow and the vendor of his motor being able to produce more power from the set limit of fuel as his motor has less work to do in hauling roun his lower mass.

Why don't we see it ?

We don't. What we see us him being out braked.

  6. pedrosa has never been considered one of the best at outbraking others.
I have seen pedrosa over the years out drag others on long straights through his weight advantage only to lose it again on the brakes....and that comes down to bottle.

but you never see pedrosa the top of many charts because its not just physics...its also raw skill and while he is excellent and can win races. he is just lacking that final 1% to make him a champion..

pedrosa also seems to fare worse than others in duels and when involved in very hard racing with sustained pressure often seems to drop off the pace...

  7. Hang on a minute chaps. Rossi has had a win and several rostrums this season, does that not count for something? And it's his first season back on the Yamaha. Sure, it's not a great season by Rossi's stratospheric standards, but by other gp riders' standards it would be considered a pretty damn good season. He's still entertaining and has shown some of that late lap killer instinct, what's more he looks like he's enjoying it.

He'll be there next season, cos he's contracted to it, and getting paid bloody well for it. You'd have to have a pretty sound reason to say no. Personally I'd like to see him pop up in another class of racing before he's too old. Then maybe head up a breakaway series where dummies and bibs are not part of the team kit...

  8. Fookin YES - totally agree.

Switch the flippin electronics off and we would soon see who IS the DOCTOR. He'll have a good year in 2014.

  9. wow, forgot how good it used to be!

in addition to what Fig said. He coulda probably won in Qatar had not been for early mistakes, he was amazing there! And Mugello well who knows? So all this talk of retirement is premature I think!
But the playing field does need levelling it's getting a bit stonerish again with those HRC machines!

  10. Love Moto GP, be a sad day for fans and Moto GP when he retires. The young bucks are hungry but lack charisma, that little spark that sets them apart. Super Sic was the next Rossi full of life, had that little spark that the fans love. I watch every two weeks and still will Rossi to win. Just look at the sea of yellow and who still has all the press at his garage no matter where he finishes. Rossi is Moto GP and must be a cash machine for it. I'm sure the GP will survive but will be a shadow of its self. One more season in him and hopefully still retire at the top of a fantastic career......but I am biased. :upyeah: Well said Figaro.
