Re-valved front forks?

  1. Howdo!

Wondering if anyone is running re-valved front forks on there 848/1098??? I've gotta set in me Superlight and toying with the idea of getting them sorted, after a bit of feedback on what people have done/by who?/cost etc....

    Cheers Pablo

  2. Got 1198 Ohlins forks in the 916 that I found a bit harsh as they were. I had them revalved/sprung by Ktech and they feel way better now, everything still kept under control but feel much smoother and more supple over uneven road surfaces, where previously they bucked around.

I also had Ktech valving in the original 916 forks which were again a big improvement over stock, although the 1198 forks are better.

I now have the old 916 forks in the Monster (resprung for the lighter weight) and they still work well but do feel harsher than the 916, although I appreciate I'm not comparing apples with apples here due to the different bike/geometry/setup etc.

In both cases the forks were improved by giving a softer yet more planted feeling whilst not using anymore travel, Ktech also use lighter (5w) oil.

  3. Howdo Desmo.

Thanks for the feedback, K-tech have just done my ohlins rear shock and there's no doubt they know there stuff - and I would have sent my forks there.......however the bloke I spoke too was an arrogant t$%t and got my back right up, it was like I was wasting his time. So I will use an independent, probably with K-tech parts .
Just spoke to Paul at Racelab and gonna pop in with the bike for him to do an assessment, but you have basically quoted how my forks currently are.

    Cheers Pablo

  4. I had k-tech valves put in my Daytona 675, the difference was remarkable. I used JHS Racing in Bristol and can't recommend them highly enough, they are K-tech/Ohlins etc trained of course.

  5. Interesting that K-tech use 5W oil... has anyone tried this without changing the internals? I'd be interested in any way of improving the action of the Showa forks on my 900SSie without going to the expense of a complete re-valve etc. The service manual says 7.5W so I guess that dropping to 5W would not make a huge difference though.

  6. I had the suspension set up by Richard at Maxton and it is a massive improvement. However the rear still isn't quite the and is going to them soon for a revalve. I've always liked what Maxton do and they don't try and sell you stuff that won't benefit you. My 1098s suspension is also going there for a revalve ready for the track.

  8. had peak performance in Exeter revalve my new R1 I had years back, front forks with k tech and ohlins rear, went from a bloody quick bike that you couldn't use, to an awesome bit of kit that I kept for 7 years, I have long been of the opinion that the best money spent on a sportsbike rather than any power upgrade is the suspension sorted, kev
