HID Kits for 2010 Ducati Multistrada 1200

  1. Just thought I'd have a whinge!

Why is it that a HID light kit for a car costs circa £40 & as you all know they have 2 head lights, yet a HID system for a bike say a 916 is about £46 with just one low beam head light & twin low beam bike like a Multistrada can cost £75.

Why not £20-£25 for a single bulb & £40 for a twin?? There is no more bulbs, blast & wires etc for a bike!

Anyone know of a UK company who supplies the slim blast versions for bikes at a good price?

  2. Moved to Multi

  3. Plenty on ebay, had low beams fitted on my triumph, as they were projector style lights same as my old 748, you dont need them for high beam.

  4. Got min from E Bay. Shipped from Hong Kong and cost me £17.99. Bulbs (you can specify which), ballasts (slimline), wiring etc. all provided. Plug and play. Work perfectly.
PS. Don't get them for your main beam as the slight delay when they fire up will mean you'll be plunged into darkness when you switch from dipped to high beam and visa versa.
Didn't bother with the kits made specifically for Can-bus. The ordinary kits works fine with no error messages.

  5. Me too.

  6. Got mine from HID50 - excellent quality and service but expensive.
Had them on my 2011 Multi - upgraded to a 2013 model so now surplus to requirements. PM me if you are interested :upyeah:

  7. What I found was that you need the smallest ballasts possible if you stand any chance of hiding them.
Also do the "low beam to stay on when on high beam" modification, see Andy's site.
Or you'll be left in darkness for a few seconds when switching from high to low.

  8. 2 x HID50 kits plus the high beam mod from Andy's site is the way to go for maximum light.

You might think HID50 a bit pricey compared to the fleabay stuff, but having bought and tried one of the chinese ebay sets (flimsey rubbish which stopped working after a few weeks) I wouldn't get anything other than Les's kit in future.

Given what we spend on these bikes, the cost of a quality HID kit with super slim ballasts in nothing

  9. Did the low beam high beam stay on adaptation al la Andys website....quite simple really and works a charm...wonder why Ducati don't do it like that in the first place?

  10. Everyone is talking about sites and such, any links? lol.

  11. Sorry for delay, yes I'm interested if you still have them can you add pictures, details, costs etc?
    Cheers

  12. I fitted a 5k hid kit(HIDS4U.co.uk) to a 1098 headlight last week and wasn't too impressed with the beam pattern, was brighter for sure but too scattered. Best result was fitting a H9 65w bulb replacing the H11 55w ones. Is there an option like that for the multistrada? Higher wattage bulbs?

  13. Same on the Multi, fit H9s instead of H11s.

  14. This is probably because you've fitted cheap HID Lamps (nothing to do with ballasts / ignitors, just the lamps).
The cheap ones dont have the light source of the envelope at the correct depth, so are incorrectly focused.

I always buy Philips branded lamps as these are correctly designed / manufactured. Never had an issue with these regardless of mount type. They cost more but you get what you pay for.

  15. Don't think that's the case. They're from a long running uk company who only deals with HID's. Maybe my expectations were too high as I had a VW Golf GtTdi at the time with Bi Xenons HID's and they were amazing.
No way(looking back now) the 1098 headlight could compete and impress. I actually have the 1098 headlight fitted to my Yamaha Fazer which is known for its rubbish headlights and the 1098's HID's are gobsmackingly good compared to them.
