Multi 2013 - best "change" for 2014

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by spanish, Dec 10, 2013.

  1. My second Multi and still a joy every time it is looked upon or ridden!

Recent discussion about possible changes I might make for 2014 and here is my personal list but would welcome comments .

    1.Standard Scorpions changed to PR3's.
2.Custom tuning- either the Rexxer ECU tuning (has anyone any experience of the Rexxer on the 2013 Multi) or a visit to CJS Racing if funds would permit.
    3. A professional set up of the suspension- for better or worse I haven't made any changes to the standard factory set up.
    4. Oberon slave clutch cylinder to replace the standard fitting

Obviously significant different funds needed for these but would value any comments as "best value for one's buck".

  2. Probably the order you have I'd imagine, ie tyres are a must when they need replacing and CJS delivers seamless power, never mind improvements, across the rev range. Although tbh I find my 2013 model fuels perfectly well, no hesitations or surges at any rev range. Hows yours?

  3. Angel GT's would be my amendment. The PR3's are a bit like wearing Doc Martins with your best Sunday suit.
As bradders mentioned, the 2013 fueling was never an issue if you stick with the cat.
I have the ABS model and find the suspension some of the best Ive ever had underneath me.
I think for a hydraulic clutch this is as light as a feather, so I cant see a need for a change. Then again I came from an Aprillia.

    I would add.
A larger sidestand footprint as standard
A reworked keyfob for those that want to put it on a lanyard / keyring.
A revised torque setting for the rear spindle nut!

  4. +1 for the key fob! Pain in the arse

  5. I got a Ducati Monster key blank cost £14 and then got it cut cost £2 Now the expensive electronic key stays secure in an inside pocket and the ordinary key used for fill ups in my non waterproof outside pocket.

  6. Done exactly the same, money well spent!

  7. Great idea :upyeah:

Although it doesn't make it easy to stare the std one tho, i.e. along with all my other keys

  8. +1
I am going this way, i would add a nice de cat exhaust, evotech radiator and cooler guards, exhaust and cylinder head guards, and spot lights, the re map would be bottom as the 13 m y fuels well allready,

  9. +1 - I did the same; great idea...

  10. Try Sato Racing for key fob 'surround'. Looks cool mad gives you the option for lanyard or keyring. Big sucker though.

  11. Love reading these...I've done a lot of riding on the MCN long term test 'Strada and there are definitely a few things I would change...sounds like a lot but it's funny how little niggles on a bike come into focus when the rest of the bike is just so good. Have loved riding the bike this year and hoping to keep it a little longer yet.

1 Design of the centre stand to move it away from my heel
2 Location of plug-in for heated clothing needs to come forward as location behind left leg is rubbish. Perhaps somewhere near the side of the fuel tank would work best.
3 Design of heat shield/exhaust valve is a dirt magnet and needs to be completely sealed from the grime.
4 Inner-most Bolt holding floating rear mudguard is hard to get to and needs moving (or make s/arm pinch bolts easier to access for chain adjustment
5 Stop the bloody ICE warning symbol appearing every three seconds. I know it's cold...I'm riding a motorcycle in it. Once every ten minutes will be fine thanks.
6 Ditch Pirelli Scorpion Trail tyres and fit Michelin Pilot Road 4 (just about to launch), Pirelli Angel ST, Metzeler Z8 Interact, Bridgestone T30s or Dunlop Roadsmarts. Z8s are on at the moment and they are brilliant. Perhaps the best yet.
7 Either redesign key to enable it to go on a keyring or make all models have full keyless with panniers and fuel cap included in centrally locked/unlocked design
8 Redesign front mudguard to do something to keep crud off engine and radiator but make it better looking than something with a fender extended bit hanging off it
9 Reshape side alloy pieces of bellypan to create an airflow around your feet so the water doesn't constantly splash across your toes and make them cold

Anything else let me know as I am writing an update for a January issue of MCN and would love to include some of the forum experience and wisdom.

  12. The centre stand having to come off for access to the lower panel is a real pain, even my dealer curses it for something as simple as an oil change. Putting the stand on takes monumental effort to wrestle that spring. All it would take is a cut out to the back half of the plates rear retaining holes. The two rear bolts could then be loosened, the plate then lowered from the front and then pulled away. I plan to mod this myself over winter.

  13. Took my lowers off for cleaning and ACF50 and was amazed that to do the job I had to take the centre stand off. Once again a manufacturer was too lazy to rectify a simple interference between bolts. With CAD design it should be so simple to design for easy maintenance. Anyway my stand has remained off with the intention next year to finding someone to alter it to stop it fouling my heal. Question is why having spent the best part of £13k should I have too. !! Before it goes back on will have to look at altering my lowers. Like your idea. Maybe when you do it you could post some pics please.

  14. Ducati has asked me to prepare a report for when the bike goes back and this will be going directly to project leaders in Bologna at the request of Claudio Domenicali who said he wanted to hear from us about our experiences and how Ducati can make the bike better in the future. Make sure you let me know what you have done (I have a pretty good idea of what you mean) as I will include it in what I send back.

  15. I would add,
    Fix for the rear brake.
Handguards that will stand up to a spill, especially as the brake and clutch reservoirs are attached to them.

  16. the most obvious that would make definitely consider an upgrade is the request for ducati to put in the panigale engine (albeit a little detuned to suit) into the MTS.

    And the new colour LCD.

Front Abs like KTM on the front wheel.

New technology like bike radar proximity warning to help the rider know about other vehicles around him (active mirrors?)

Bluetooth technology onto the rider's helmet (HUD display - although that would mean a link up with some helmet manufacturer) - this could be integrated with a radio/mp3 player and include bike to bike comms as well as internet connectivity/active traffic hazards.

Active Geometry technology - allowing the rider/bike to lower/raise/extend/reduce wheelbase

Electronic active mudgards - to increase/decrease protection depending on riding conditions

    Front wheel drive

Active windscreen and side guards for legs - again to increase/decrease wind protection

err..some of these would move the game on a "little" !

    Bugs

  17. And the price up another £10k ;-)

  18. add cruise control, most of what is required is there already I think
