You may need to give us a small bit more detail..........................................................................................................................
I'm fairly certain it'll be one with a wheel at the front, might even have one at the back aswell, who knows? Be nice if it was a square case or something equally luvverly - I love these guessing games.
Bike is not in my possession yet expecting it this weekend hopefully - but all in 'bits'. It has been in my neighbours garage for the last 12 years a project that we were both going to undertake but circumstances changed and after all this time he wishes to sell his half share. Therefore no work has been done on the bike. I am now undertaking this project with a friend but this has come at a very unfortunate time as I am booked in on Wednesday 5 September to have full knee replacement and will be out of action for some months as you can imagine. At present I am trying to establish the actual model of the bike, I have the Vehicle Registration Document dated 1984 which gives me the chassis number and engine number - model should be a 900S Ducati but need it confirmed have sent email to Ducati UK but am still awaiting confirmation of details.
Knee OP cancelled (no parts arrived, sorry I mean knee parts) rescheduled 3/4 weeks time. Need confirmation of model (think it could be a 900S) Engine No: 087403DM860 Bike Frame No: DM860SS*087212 DGM13215OM Please advise me how I could obtain this information. Thanks
If its an SS then the downtubes will not be flattened where they meet the front engine mounts but will have little tubes welded on them. The swingarm will not have eccentric mounts onto the frame, but a normal pivot pin. The engine could have been changed of course, but if its a genuine SS then its well worth restoring
URGENT - We have approached Ducati direct with the engine and chassis numbers with the hope of obtaining specifications and original colours but we appear to be up against a dead end - please could anyone shed any light on how to obtain the required info. Thanks
From what we can see here.. Ducati Squarecase Engine/Frame List your bike is a SS900 built in Jan 1977. As such it should have wire spoked wheels, and come in the classic silver and blue paintwork. Theres a great book by Ian Falloon (which I have somewhere but cant find) which also gives a lot of useful info on chassis number ranges, numbers per year etc.. Dont know if he is still going, but Tony Brancato has been my first port of call when it comes to bevelheads in the uk. So if you google 1977 Ducati 900SS you'll soon find a huge amount of info about the model.
