Good point. Psychopaths are rarely the obviously raving lunatics of legend (and Hollywood films). More often they are devious and manipulative as you say - and plausible.
Offenders only conform to two stereotypes. 1. They want to sexually offend. 2. They do not want to get caught. grooming is done by the majority of offenders, this is not only aimed at the victim but also those able to protect the victim. The majority if offenders will always bang on about remorse, generally this forms 'had I been aware of the consequences I would never have offended' rarely is it victim focused empathy. To commit acts that you know society will judge you one means that you have to change your thinking, hence cognitive distortions that allow them to minimise their own behaviour whilst maximising the victims part in the act. The exceptions are psychopaths who do nut understand the mentality of empathy or sadists, who may but gain their greatest pleasure from the distress of the act. these offenders are rarely born they are made by their own circumstances, their own distortions and their own needs. Very rarely are offenders victims themselves, due to the impact that their own victimisation has on them.Offenders who claim to have been victims themselves when confronted with polygraphs tend to withdraw their own victimisation allegations or fail the polygragh detector tests (research in the USA ). Therefore the chances of ever realising someone is a predatory offender is virtually zero.
This is why hanging them is pointless. Are peadophiles born that way, or created? There is obviously a cognitive deficiency but study is necessary to determine what trigger caused an attraction to children. I'm quite sure no normal person ever woke up and decided it was 'kiddy fiddling Tuesday' any more than a normal person wakes up and decided it was 'stabby Wednesday' or 'rapey Thursday' these crimes (and you can quite legitimately bundle murders and rapists into the same camp) are the product of many factors. Simply rendering living specimens of these neurological monsters corpses will do nothing to understand how to spot trigger factors BEFORE they turn into fully fledged monsters. How is the best way of putting out a fire? Preventing it in the first place. Lots of anger and bile being spewed wont help detect and prevent the next Ian Watkins coming along (and they sure as hell will be one) obviously he needs to spend the rest of his life in jail, but whilst living he may finally be the one who provides the breakthrough that enables these sick people to be detected and ultimately successfully treated in the future before they offend.
But will he capitulate? He's been lobbed inside for a very long time, I doubt he'd be that happy to help out.
You cant solve it unless it can be tracked to a gene them we ate all genetically modified from birth to not do this stuff. All you can do is make punishment so harsh, and catching so obvious and easy, it keeps urges at bay. Same as those with vertigo: string desire to leap from high buildings but funny enough the consequence and smashing your brains all over the pavement keeps you from doing it. the challenge is punitive without meaning you may as well kill as well as abuse, as it cant get any worse.
Everyone knows what the punishment is for these crimes, and even in the dark days when the death penalty applied people still raped and murdered, so a deterrent obviously doesn't work. It's not necessarily genetic either, the reality is that at this point of time we simply don't know.
Who knows? The reality is even he probably doesn't. It wouldn't be the first time a criminal has cracked and discussed their crimes in great detail many years after their incarceration. Chemical castration does work, as totally blocking testosterone production removes all sexual desire. The sharp increase in testosterone production in puberty is the main reason teenage boys are so continuously horny. I recall there were cases in the us where pedophiles who had been chemically castrated spoke if their joy of being free from those harmful thoughts and urges. This desperately needs more research.
It is not genetic otherwise we could screen for it, it is dynamic, nurture not nature. Looking for a simplistic solution is madness .
What turns people on is still very mysterious. Little is understood about fetishes, or even quite common attractors. Why do some women like beards, or bald heads? So to reckon we are going to get to the root of why people are homosexual, or masochists, or sadists or attracted to babies is going to take quite a long time.
I know this wont help solve the problem , but I think nature has something to do with it . We have transvestites and trans sexuals who will tell you that they have simply been put in the wrong body , A womans mind , brain whatever in a mans body ect , and Gay people are probly not that different . We have plenty of more obvious birth defects , weather genetic or environmental , spinabifida , hole in the heart , thalimyde . Surely its not so hard to believe that nature did get it wrong with say a transsexual for instance . A man born into a womans body ( or vice versa ) will endure ridicule , depression , marrage /family break ups and eventually surgery to try and live the way they feel is right for them , A gay person has been wired the wrong way round in that he or she finds the same sex attractive . These could be seen as defects that affect the mind not the body . I think that paedos have a birth defect ... must have to want to do it , I mean , Im not gay but no amount of gay men hitting on me will ever change that ( proven ) , If it was to change me then I would have to have been gay all along .... surely ? A paedo does paedo things because he or she lusts after kids instead of adults , not because they are sick of playing scrabble . It would be great if we could rewire them but it aint going to happen , which leaves deterrant , and I think we just keep upping the level of deterrant until they get the message . 1st conviction ... jail , therapy ( make em understand the damage they do , if they don't /wont understand they don't get out ) and release , if they reoffend ... jail forever , no more chances , Oh and we have to do something about jails too , they need to be a place Nobody wants to go to, not the holiday camps they are now Having said that , paedos have been around for ever and will be around for ever , they are like rabbits , no matter what we throw at them they will survive . Genetics has something to do in everything. If anyone suggests these things should be screened for, you are also suggesting termination before birth for defined 'defects' is the way forward Better to highlight the issues to encourage the abused to come forward, find ways of knowing whether someone is accusing in truth or not, and penalise accordingly. Making it more likely to catch will drive crime down. Zero tolerance will also drive crime down. All of a sudden the chance of getting caught plus no second chances equals the majority stay with wanking to images in the bedroom. Doesn't solve it, but reduces over time And I wont change £10m for a research budget, they can have that for free ;-) lol
Screening for birth defects is alive and well and so is the subsequent termination , at the choice of the prospective parents . Honestly , If I could know ahead of time that one of my offspring was going to be severely not normal I would want the chance to terminate . People who breed animals know it unwise to breed off "a bad un " , damn shame people aint so practical when it come to ourselves
So giving peadophiles images of child sexual abuse ( or as other people call them 'child porn' ) is the way forward???? So how many children have to be abused to provide these images??? How much reinforcement do we have to give to offenders? It's ok to look at the images but not to go onto fantasise about kids? And consequently go on to abuse? It is all about experience about past reinforcement of experience and confirming what others perceive to be negatives. You cannot claim a legitimate connection between being homosexual and being a predatory child sex offender.
