I bought a new to me 900SS a month ago and this is one of the forums I have found in my searches for good tech advice. I like the DIY ideas you guys come up with for tools, like the front stand for a 900SS. I previously had a 2009 Monster 696, but we ended up divorcing due to expanding fuel tank issues. Have been lusting for a early 900SS for years and last month finally found a good one. Now for some pictures! Here she is on my trailer when I bought it: As I do with every "new to me bike" I like to do what I call baseline maintenance so there is no question as to how long it has been since consumables have been replaced. This includes all fluids being changed, throttle cables, timing belts, plugs and wires and some carburetor work (rebuild kit, needles and emulsion tubes). Tires too! So here is how she looked Christmas morning: And here she is a few hours later: The previous owner had receipts showing carburetor work being done in April 2012. Considering how these carburetors looked, I am wondering what they did:
Not sand, it is residue from where the previous owner ran gas with ethanol in it and didn't drain the carbs before letting it sit. It looks like sand, but is not gritty.
The picture is from St. Louis, where the owner lived. And yes it was a cold, cold day! Jefferson City is about 140 miles west of St. Louis.
Ride that around the Capital of cool - London, and you will have to fight the ladies off you. We laugh and point mockingly at HD's. With their tasselled jackets and leather 'chaps'. Although there is a old grey haired black dude on a HD bobber round my way that pulls off ultra uber cool on an HD but i think he'd probably manage that even on a C90. I am getting a serious hard on for these old ss900's and i wants one They're lovely.
