BRIGHTON SPEED TRIALS: You may not be aware but this event has been running in Brighton since 1905 and is an entertaining fun-packed day out for the whole family to watch some of the UK's best racing cars and motor bikes compete along Madeira Drive. Over two hundred cars and motor bikes line up to take timed runs including road cars, race cars and drag bikes who compete to be the fastest in their class. A top six run-off to find the fastest car and bike brings the day to a dramatic close. Sadly last year there was a fatality and in consequence the Council are playing safe and in effect saying “no more”, despite the event being run to Motor Sport Association rules and regulations... An e-Petition to save the event is being organised and you can help the cause by referring to http://present.brighton-hove.gov.uk/mgEPetitionDisplay.aspx?ID=410&RPID=11175561&HPID=11175561 and taking the necessary action. Brighton & Hove Council's action is purely a "knee-jerk" reaction that would bring to an end an internationally renowned event purely because of an unprecedented freak accident. Please sign the petition to help preserve this historic event...
Pity if it has to come to an end, after such a very long run. I used to go regularly, and competed as a passenger in a Morgan 3-wheeler in approx. 1983. In those days lots of interesting cars and bikes of all periods and sizes used to compete. Went again recently, disappointed to find it a shadow of its former self. I fear its time is past - long past. No, I'll not sign a petition to keep a corpse on life support. Sorry.
