magnesium swing arm on ebay

  1. Hey chaps theres a mag swingarm on eBay for 2500 brand new would be good but does that seem a tad expensive??

  2. They have been trying to sell it at that price (unsuccessfully) for some months now and it looks like a Febur not a Marchesini, not that that makes any difference. If you are prepared to sell your soul for an ever decreasing number of spares to complete the fitment it will end up costing you a lot. The longer chain sliders are essential to protect the metal of the swing arm and they are like rocking horse poo. I recently paid £100 for a second hand pair and if you cannot find an Ohlins RS rear shock, you'll need to revlave and respring what you've got to take the extra bending moment forces with the longer pivot. Still a lot of people have/are done/doing it including myself but be prepared to go into it with your eyes open and have a pocket stuffed with £50 notes. Andy

  3. 2500 is dream on soft lad money. I have spent 900 getting mine to the point of install, only thing missing is the corse shock, and that is dealt with as part of another deal. Chain runners can be had MS Long Chain Rub: MAG Swingarm or you can make a custom one (I will post a pic asap)

  4. I did a track day once and a dentist (nice guy) had one of these on his 916.
I couldn't really see the point. He wasn't that fast to make any difference with it.
That is one piece of flash kit for what advantage, exactly?

  5. The Mag swingarms are lighter obviously, but they are also 20mm ish longer, combine that with the corse triple clamps which have less offset and the 23.5 degree head angle, you end up with more front weight bias, which helps the bike turn in more quickly, and is less wheelie prone on corner exits.

  6. Fair dos.

Pub bragging rights wouldn't have anything to do with it, then?

  7. You could argue that was the case with 90% of bike mods.

I'm sure pride of ownership is part of it yes, and there is nothing wrong with that imho.

  8. I agree. That's surely the reason many (most) of us are here in the first place.

  11. Sorry for OT but this caught my eye. Was the dentist named Roy and on a SPS by any chance?

  12. It was a decade ago, so can't really say.

But if your dentist lives in the Valais canton of Switzerland, it's him. Nice bloke.

  13. Not the same guy, mine lived in Colchester England. Sadly died a few years back racing tzr's. Very nice bloke as well.

Was only thinking there can't be many dentists riding around on 916's with those fancy swingers. Anyway.. :)

  14. Maybe there are - they do have the loot after all!
Maybe it's a dentist thing - all that amalgam in one place gives them the horn.

  15. Good point(s)
