'96 916 Strada conrod bolt torque

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by DesmoEddy, Jan 2, 2014.

  1. Hi all,

I am rebuilding my one-owner (me!) 916 from the ground up. I am at the stage of torqueing up the conrod bolts after fitting new big end shells (one red, one blue per rod) and there seems to be a discrepancy between the factory Strada manual and the otherwise excellent Haynes:-

Factory: stage one torque 20Nm, stage two 35Nm, stage three 65 degrees

Haynes: stage one torque 20Nm, stage two 35Nm, stage three 35 degrees

So far I've followed the Haynes value, and the 35 degrees stage 3 certainly feels good and tight for such a fine pitch fastener, but before I drop the crank assembly into the cases I need to be 100% sure - anyone know which is correct?

    Some pics so far:-

    Thanks,

    Eddy

  2. Eddy,
I did mine on the 748 as per Haynes, seemed pretty tight on the bolt to me and the bearings all felt good. I have run the motor 350 miles so far and all seems good.
    Billy.
