Should I sell: GT1000

  1. While sat here at work thumb twiddling I realised that my GT1000 needed an MOT and if im being really honest its not really done many miles since the last one. The problem was i bought it a couple of years ago and almost the following week got a contract working away for 14 months, then there was a house move and a new baby and you know how the story goes...
What im struggling with is there are no other bikes I like more to replace it with so if I decided to sell that would be it for an unspecified time, so its a big decision iv been mulling over but came to no answer.

At the moment its just sat happily in the garage on an optimate and gets fired up every now and again but I very rarely get the time to take it out, im getting more into road cycling and given a spare weekend morning thats what iv been doing.

The bike is a 2006, GT1000 in red, Full ducati history with the last service doing all the fluids and belts, I think the mileage is about 3kmiles but its still on its original pilot classic tyres which have loads of life left.
It has the genuine Ducati chrome rack and a colour matched WoC Hugger fitted.
Some paint has lifted rear of engine case and there is some mild surface rust on the chrome wheels.

What would this sort of thing command in this crazy market of ours if I decided to let it go?

  2. Yawn

  3. Try putting it up for auction on Flea-bay and find out

  4. Yea, I was thinking an auction would find its value but they also seem to trawl up the internet bottom feeders and time wasters. In reality I would prefer a standard classified type advert but they seem so few and far between its difficult to know where to pitch it.

On the flip side its a pretty garage ornament so I might just sorn it and see if I get chance to take it out when the weather turns.

  5. Can't see it losing value if looked after

  6. Keep it. Shit happens and circumstances change. If it isn't costing you anything and you've the room then keep it. I would.

  7. I'd keep it!... Nice run around bike!

  8. There's not one for sale anywhere at the moment so if someone wants one they'll lap it up. Don't be put off by eBay, look how many dealers are advertising on there now, it's the way to go. Put it on with a reserve it will fly out. I've seen them sell for anything between £3.5 and £5k private.

  9. I'll give you £50 and a packet of chewits for it, and that's my final offer.

  10. No!... Chuck in a half used Lemonade juice to 'sweeten' the deal!... :upyeah:

  11. Any of the sport classics are fetching really strong money. I think you'd get a pleasant surprise. I'd give ya 3.5k for it ;)

  12. Yep, I was offered one for £1800 or so a couple of years ago; should have snapped it up:frown:

  13. Keep it if you don't need to sell it as others have said - it can only go up in value!

  14. Advert gone?

Think im just going to SORN mine and leave it in a corner of garage until iv made my mind up one way or another.

Its stupid that even though im not riding it I think I would be gutted if it wasn't there.

  15. I saw the ad and it's now gone....if it sold for £6500 in 3 days that tells you where the SportClassic market is heading...

Think this guy is pushing his luck though, been for sale for 6 months.....

  16. Looking at that advert, I'd suggest 'Dave' starts to use Spellcheck, or has a grown-up check his scribings before he posts them.
I'm always wary of adverts with loads of typos & spelling mistakes when claiming full service history on a 6/7 year old bike that has only covered 5,500 miles. Dave may well be genuine, but IMHO he hasn't done himself any favours & a few minutes further preparation on his advert could have made so much difference.

Does he show the same attention to detail when looking after his bike? It does look nice in the photo:

  17. I never knew it - I'm in a "Ferternaty" (sic) !

  18. I didn't realise the GT 1000 was classed as a cafe racer either.
