Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum and need some help. I started my Ducati today and had been running it for about 15 minutes before wanting to take it a run up the carriageway a few times. I was just about to pull the clutch in when the engine stopped and the engine light came on. The bike will not start now as the orange light will not go out. The oil light is also coming on. The bike will not turn over. Can someone tell me if I have a major problem or not? The bike has not been run out since its last service, which was the beginning of December! I went out to try start the bike an hour later and the engine light is out, but the oil light is on and bike still wont start. Big Chris
If the orange EOBD light is still showing on the dash you can bring the fault codes up on the LCD display. Switch ignition off, hold down the left switch on the clocks and turn the ignition on. Post the code(s) that are displayed.
The oil light will be on if the motor isn't turning over. If it was on before the motor stopped, that's a problem.
The engine light came on initially and the bike cut out. So I turned key to stop. After an hour or so, I have gone back out to the bike and noticed that the orange/yellow engine light is out, but the red oil light is on. The oil in the reservoir is at the correct level. What do you think may be the problem?
I NO it`s a silly answer and you "have" checked!! was the side stand down? and is it now in gear? ONLY asking. Mate of mine had BIG problems on a Ka***saki, kept cutting out while riding. Mechanics said BIG Carb problem!!! I said isolate side stand safety switch....bike never failed again. Also a chap on IOM just off ferry for weeks holiday over there, same. Mechanics kept his bike for 4 days and he walked everywhere, then he asked them too bypass switch. and it was all OK.
The big red light is the oil pressure light. If the motor is not turning over, there will be no oil pressure, hence the red light. If the oil light came on while the bike was running, you've got a problem. I would get the oil and the filter out and look for bis of bearing on the filter, screen or sump plug.
Ian, it was in gear. However, once I knocked it out of gear, the red light and green neutral light are on which is normal I believe. But when I push the ignition button, the orange/yellow engine light flashes on and off without the bike turning over. Does that tell you anything?
Jerry, the red oil light didn't come on whilst the bike was running, just the orangy/yellow light. I will get a good bike mechanic friend to check this for me tomorrow as I am just new to the biking scene. Thanks so much for all your quick, helpful responses!
It could be the fuel injector/fuel pump/coil relay playing up. This is a £1.99 part that causes no end of problems due to corrosion. It's a pain in the ar$e to get at because it is behind the heat shield attached to the back of the battery box and is located just below the starter motor relay. This means it's a battery out and battery box unbolted job to get at the little posidrive screws that secure the heat shield. For the relays just search 12v micro relay on eBay (you are after the 4 pin version).
could need a new battery, put you started it once! you do know the starter is "servo assisted" or the like. So should you push starter ONCE let go and let the bike start it`s self. If it was me.....leave the bike for 5 mins Have a cup of tea. Go back to bike...turn of bike alarms if you have one and go through the whole routine again
I just did this Ian, but when I push the starter button, the red/green lights go out and the orange/yellow engine light comes on and goes straight back off. A faint clicking noise can be heard. The battery is strong at 13.9 - 14.
Electrical issue. Relay by the battery. But like Chrisw said, hold down the left hand button on the dash and turn the ignition on then not down the numbers that the dash says. Then we can help more.
Chris, now when I push the starter button, the red/green lights go out and the orange/yellow engine light comes on and goes straight back off. A faint clicking noise can be heard. The battery is strong at 13.9 - 14.
Hi guys, When holding down the left button on the dial and turning ignition key, the Error comes up as; EF1. What is that then?
DID you take time out to have a cup of TEA then? BIG CHRIS? always helps me...and I`m not GUY MARTIN...wish I was young
LOL!! A cuppa tea is always good mate... When holding down the left button on the dial and turning ignition key, the Error comes up as; EF1. What is that then?
