1098 on the way. A few questions.

  1. Hi All,

I have my first Ducati being delivered on Thursday in the way of a 1098. I have a few questions some of you may be able help me out with.

It's got the carbon Termignoni cans on but no race ecu or power commander. Does it need one with just the end cans or is that mainly of the full system? Every change of end can I've done on previous bikes I've always set it up with a power commander but that's always been on Jap bikes.

Secondly, I have read/seen some stuff about about data logging on these bikes. Is this an upgrade or standard item? How would I know if mine has it on?

There will be many more questions to come so thanks in advance.

  2. With the open end cans your bike will run lean on the stock ECU. I would consider changing to the DP one or get your original remapped.

There is a connector under the pillion seat that takes the DDA for data logging DDA Web Support: Home page

Both the ECU and DDA crop up on eBay.

  3. Ok thanks for the reply. A few more Q's from that.

    DP= Ducati Performance?

Can an I get the standard Ecu mapped then or does it need to be another type I.e Ducati Performance one. I've seen these go for around £300 on eBay and standard ones a lot cheaper. Any way of telling if it has been remapped already? I haven't seen the paperwork yet so there could be something in there pertaining to this. What about Power commanders? Are the ecu re flash the better option?

My my plan is to get the bike sorted (ecu re flash or new one) then at another time get a full system put on. I assume I could just re flash the already re flashed ecu or DP one already on it when I get a full system on?

    There is more.........

in regards to the data logging. Is the connection/function on every 1098 then just the actual logging unit needed to be bought? I've also seen these on eBay but didn't know if something needed to be added to the bike.

    Cheers

  4. Yes, DP = Ducati Performance

If you bought this Ducati 1098 Standard ECU | eBay I could reflash it to DP for you (PM me for details)

Check your dash when you get your bike if it says 1098 RACING then you have the DP ECU fitted. If it says SBK 1098 TSE then you have the stock ECU fitted.

Look under the pillion seat for the DDA connector [IMG]

It just plugs in here. Needs switching on via the dash and then the software installing on your computer.

  5. if it was me I would snap up that ecu now. then I would run the bike as is until I change to the full system and then either re flash with a generic map or dyno and custom map. re the power commander I wouldn't as its only more to go wrong, also ( someone confirm or correct me ) but I think the power commander only works above a certain revs ie 4/5k.
also if buying a full system it may come with a dpecu, if so keep your standard as spare/resale.
now welcome to the site and enjoy the new bike,it will maybe take a while to get used to but stick with it, also your best mod is a suspension set up :upyeah: then its a sweet tool.
post up pics when you get it and don't be a stranger.

  6. Chrisw, thanks for the info. Been a great help. I think I need to wait till the bike gets here and see what the finer paperwork says and the dash more importantly. Then I'll be in contact about the possibility of re-flashing a standard ECU to a DP one. I am intrigued of the ins and outs of how you do this tho including charges? PM me if you get chance.

Idrinkbeer - I intend to give the 1098 a good go. I've wanted a Ducati for a long time but only recently been able to think about one. I remember drooling over the 1098 when it first came out. I have SeastarSuperbikes (Ducati dealer) and MTC not a million miles away from me so I will be looking heavily into re maps and suspension set ups soon.
