led light - anyone fitted

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Bugsbunny, Feb 4, 2014.

  1. hello all,

My 2010 needs the rear light doing again (gone all foggy/dirt ingress), am considering putting in the LED light that on the US site everyone did a group buy as I think if I get another OEM light it will go again (its my fifth).

Whats the position on the legality of using integrated light blinkers - after all cars have them - do bikes have to be separate ?

Custom LED make them : 2010-2014 Ducati Multistrada Integrated LED Tail Light, Taillight | Custom LED

Anyone from the UK put one of these on yet ?

    And had a MOT ?

    Thanks

  2. Assuming it's E marked then the separation is the issue from a legislation point of view. If it passes an MOT is down to how friendly your tester is.

  3. The separation is the main issue... My tester won't pass them. If there's a use and construction issue then I think you can get pulled for them as well???
im not a fan tbh. While you're braking and indicating there's too much going off for a driver to not figure it out. You get arse ended and they'd put blame on you.....

  4. ...five! - all at Ducati's expense to date I hope!!!! (age/miles of bike?)

I think it very unlikely to carry an E mark.............personally I don't like the combined indicators/rear light system on its own i.e. no OE or similar indicators - I've followed bikes with similar setups and not been impressed. Indicators with placement so little off centre have the potential to cause confusion sooner or later imho

  5. Hi,
I fitted one of these, once I realised that the brake light was dangerous. You can run this just as a tail/brake light, using the stock indicators only. Just don't connect up the indicator wire from the Custom LED light.
    Hope this helps.

  6. Also IF you were wanting to do it for aesthetics but were having an issue with the pannier clearance on tail tidy's + led indicators I 'may' have an answer.

Ive recently purchased a German made tail tidy that is very similar in design concept to the Rizoma one but actually even more adjustable.

It can be angled to any preference for a start but also the indicator mounting brackets have about 8 possible levels of adjustment in to outer edges.

There are 4 double hole positions each side BUT if you turn the mounting brackets in on themselves the 4 mounting positions then actually then give you another 4 different ranges of clearance (Pics would make sense)

Anyway, the point im trying o make is that I've fitted a 7.5 x 6 plate with the font increased to maximum thus giving me near as damn it legal size (only a fraction under)

With the indicators now fitted (not the smallest i could use) Ive currently got the entire width down to just below 11" but i could quite easily drop them in further.

Im fitting it this weekend so will check all clearances then

again i may be way off topic but I was too looking at the integrated tail light but thought id try this route first.

PS - The actual license plate mounting piece is just about 7" wide but i cut off 1" from the bottom of the plate mount as i didn't want it sticking out, there's actually a hole normally where you can hang the reflector bracket (can just re-drill that)

  7. I know 'AirConTechnical' has fitted similar and much debate on other threads on here over legality etc.
    Try this :- http://ducatiforum.co.uk/google.php...earch.php?searchid=1637328&ss=7887j4402881j21

The search function on here works very well now after recent upgrade.

  8. Yep I've the latest all in one rear light from the USA. I love it, especially the HAZARD function that flashes the indicators and brake for those stopped at the side of the road moments. Yes I think an anal MOT tester would fail you, but then he would also the HID upgrades, removal of the splash guard, Ohlins steering damper and my number plate.

The best advice for all you Termis exhaust people is to fit a quality tail tidy (not R&G as they are Sh1t, unlike most of their other products which are great). This moves the number plate out of the way of the exhaust.

Also a letter box sized plate also helps.

All of which may put you at odds with the MOT station and the old bill.

No one who has seen my rear light has said they don't like it, only people on the forums.
I think reserve judgement until you've followed me. Further I think the indicator function is really clear, not to be confused with the crap on Ebay. Mine the LEDs are at least as bright as the OEM and the logic of the operation is brilliant.

  9. Thanks - you'll have to get on and do that video! ;-) ..............brand/make of unit, linky?

  11. fitted one of these last year 2010-2014 Ducati Multistrada Integrated LED Tail Light, Taillight | Custom LED

its great , works well it's brighter than stock and I think the blinkers are more visible than stock when you have the panniers fitted with stock placement, been stopped by the police no mention of it. As for mot will tell you next week as she has just gone in.

  12. great feedback, looks like it will be worth an investment, thanks all, bugs

  13. just a thread revival.

here a couple of pics of my tail tidy fitted (link above) with a 7.5" plate

As you can see even mounted up high it fits nicely between the Top box supporting brackets, you can easily mnount a wider plate lower to sit underneath them if you wish.
