Oil level

  1. Hi All

    I have a funny feeling that the "MAX" level sticker on my 900SS is too low. The Haynes manual shows the MIN to be roughly where mine says MAX with MAX about 10mm higher - as you can hopefully see from the photo I have no MIN mark at all.

    Obviously I don't want to under or over fill it, so any help is most welcome.

    Glen.

  2. the sticker / indicator is not oe, with bike upright & level, oil in sight glass to halfway is fine.

  3. The line at the top of the sticker is your Max line I believe.

  4. Yes, it looks as if the sticker has Max against the wrong line. Shouldn't there be a trace of mayonnaise in there too? That seems to be fairly normal for these engines.

  5. The 'Max' should be the 'Min'.

    The sticker should look like this;

  6. geoff always said to run them quite full as they tended to burn some. I fill mine up to the upper line in the casting.

  7. There's no sticker on my SS, just two casting marks like wot all the others shown have..........I would have thought it was plainly obvious which was the higher and lower levels, bearing in mind one mark is higher than the other.

    Mine is usually overfilled a bit without any issues.

  8. Thanks for all the responses guys.

    Reading the other threads on the subjects, it seems clear that the circa '93 bikes like mine had the max lowered to avoid pumping losses through breathers etc.

    I will take to advice of the majority and fill it to 1/2 way up the sight glass and see how it goes.

    Glen.

  9. I too have a '93 900SS and it has the same "lowered" Max sticker. I tend to keep it 1/2 up the sight glass.
