Hypermotard - ugly duck bill front

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by aerobroker, Feb 3, 2014.

  1. Hi - I've just bought a 2007 Hypermotard 1100S. The front end is hideous! Is it possible to replace with front end / headlight surround of a Streetfighter together with the front fender. Or has anyone any other ideas as to a tasteful conversion. Many thanks
    Rob

  2. You bought a bike you don't like???
    You've made me chuckle.
It's a great choice, i'd love one and don't see the problem with them. As for modifying it, pretty much anythings possible if time and money are on your side.
Sorry i'm not much help but do hope you find a solution if you really think it needs one.

  3. Hi mate - yes it is a fantastic bike. Took it in part exchange for an ST3 which bored me to be honest. I've got a 2002 738R for scratching but wanted a fun bike to tour on. The 1100S is perfect but the front end is not pretty. Many thanks

  4. Sorry - that's a 748R....

  5. Better off getting the 748 painted get rid of all them scratches

  6. hi Aero,
I am having my Hyper modified as we speak, like you I don't like the "beak" but love everything else about the Hyper, especially the handling. I have had my Hyper for 4 years now but have decided to modify it rather than sell it in part exchange for either the new Monster 1200 or a Diavel.
I bought a Carbon Conquest fairing which is been cut down so that it just surrounds the headlight. Fitting adjustable rearsets and a few other bits to it as well. It already has an extended range fuel tank and I got rid of those irritating flip-out mirrors. I have recently fitted new Evotech levers and have CNC Adjustable Rearsety on order.
    Cheers,
    Moses.

  7. Not really noticed when sitting on it...

  8. Ducks are not ugly, hypers are very ugly. I have pet ducks and if the hyper was as lovely looking as they are I would have bought one.

  9. imagine a bike with the front end of a Hyper and the back end of a TLR - would it actually be a duck??

  10. Strange...I've always liked the overall look apart from the engine....Ive always thought it looked like a lawnmower engine...

  11. Luckuly you qualified the comment that you think my motorbike looks hideous with the fact that......

  12. Thanks - have you got any pics of the cut-down Carbon Conquest fairing - who's cut it down and how do they trim the carbon to make it look good.....

  13. Hi Aero,
The Carbon Conquest Fairing is being cut down using a diamond cutting tool. I marked up the fairing to show where I wanted the cuts to be made. I haven't got the skill or tools to do a good job so I am having the work done by Sudden Impact who are also doing a custom paint job on my front forks, yokes and bar raisers. I should get the bike back by the end of the week or early next week so will post pictures then and let you know if the finish is good. I kept the original front fairing so that I can convert it back in the event of me wanting to sell the bike, however once you remove the front fairing there are other modifications that need doing to make a neat job. The other modifications I would recommend straight away are to remove the flip out mirrors as they are a pain in the ...... when filtering and fit an extended range fuel tank which gives a 200 mile range.
Hopefully will be posting the results soon.
    Cheers,
    Moses.

  14. Hi Aero,
Bike back - pictures as promised. Have kept the handguards and original fairing so I can convert it back again if I sell the bike.

  15. Hi - looks really good - great job! Now I suppose you'll be looking to fit a full carbon front mudguard/fender - will a Monster one fit perhaps? Good luck mate and let me know what you decide....

  16. Sorry I don't think that looks good at all.....no offence but just looks like something has been cut off...

  17. Moses have you any better photos showing all of the bike, head on doesn't really show the new look to well?

  18. Not yet - I just took that picture for Aero to show what I've just had done. Will post pictures once I've fitted the CNC adjustable rearsets. I didn't expect everyone to like the look - but I have kept the original fairing so can convert it back. I have had the bike for nearly 5 years and wanted to modify it to stop me trading it in for a new Monster 1200 or Diavel. I love the handling etc and have spent alot of money on the bike - just felt like a change. The cuts were made based on the Roland Sands Custom Hyper, which is where I got the inspiration to mutilate my Hyper from!

  19. +2 and you are more tactful than me!

  20. Hey Brassflute - I see I've modified it too far for your taste - its gone from looking "sweet" (your own words) to .........
It would be boring if we only modified our bikes with standard aftermarket accessories such as exhaust systems etc, - I can assure you it looks awesome in the flesh.
    Cheers,
    Moses.
