I'm off to the alps with 5 mates for 9 days in July....... yes I'm a lucky B*^%"$d My question is this , As my bike is still covered under warranty with Ducati will that be sufficient cover or would you get an Independent insurance to cover any breakdowns that definitely wont happen....(fingers crossed). Never been abroad biking before and not sure how good the Ducati warranty would be if needed. Thanks for any advice, Dave
You lucky B'stard, hope you have a great time, and remember don't get caught up with the tour de France !
Enjoy your trip. The Alps are great. For Ducati warranty, see the red booklet "Ducati Card Assistance Programme" which will have come with the new bike. Pages 27 to 49 detail what help you are entitled to and how to get it. I suggest you read those pages carefully, and take the booklet with you. For posts on my recent trip, see the Touring: WDW Misano thread.
I'd suggest getting additional breakdown cover just to be sure. Also although you don't strictly need it in France I would check your travel insurance carefully as many of them prohibit riding bikes bigger than a certain size.
I might bump in to you Dave as am just planning with 3 mates a trip to the Stelvio Pass for 6 days leaving on the 9th Sep. Any suggestions from anyone most welcome.
So are you suggesting he's going to breakdown and live off the land for 2 months? He's leaving in July! Just giving you a hard time. What sort of suggestions would you like? I know the Alps pretty well. I almost live in them.
Note to self: Must get eyes tested & read threads properly  The plan is to go from Strasbourg to Stelvio Pass so are there any must places/roads to do & any good eating/sleeping locations? Thanks
I'm going on the 22nd July for 11 days with my mates. Staying in an hotel on Stelvio for a couple of nights as well. Not taking the Duc this year though so will be on my new Triumph Explorer. May see you there.
Mine broke down in Scotland last year and i used the Ducati assistance as the bike had to be picked up,they use the AA or a local firm to collect the bike if it needs it. I went to the black forest this year and i was insured with Carol Nash which covers you for abroad anyway but i would have thought that the Ducati cover would be ok but probably best check on the small print.
