Hi all i currently am running a 180 rear on my bike. I've been offered a 190 tyre cheap and just wondering whether it's worth getting as a spare for when my 180 runs too low or is it a no go? Thanks Jeff
Jeff, it depends on your rear rim size. If it's 5.5 inches then 185 would usually be the max but if it's 6 inches the 190 should be fine. Andy
see what others say but from a handling point of view I wouldn't consider it on say a 748 (don't know which bike you have).
I have a 190 on my 998 and I am going to 180 on my next tyre change. If it's for the road it should be fine though.
Ive had both 180 and 190 on my old 3 spoke brembos on my 916. Both were fine, however the 180 'felt' more manoeuvrable. Someone will no doubt diss this but as 'feel' is subjective, they can get stuffed.
Sigh, .. Just to clear things up. They were on the wheel at separate times. What I meant was that I've had a 180 on it for a while. Then I had a 190 on it for a bit. When the 916 was still wearing her OEM brembos.
PJ, standard fitment on 999 is 190? Have you fitted a 749 rear wheel? I tried a 180 on my 999 2 tyres ago and will be fitting 180 next time cos I preferred it. I think 10 up or down is safe enough, the profile doesn't change much. All down to personal preference and if there's clearance.
Yes I know its standard fitment , but its on the 5.5 rim , the 180 was fitted to the 749 as it was the smaller cubed bike but still with the same rim size . I have a 190/ 55 which just fits with tyre warmers with the wheel almost fully back.
