Has anyone ever taken their Multi on a trackday? My local airfield opens to the public a few times a year and I have booked. I have some concerns 1) I'm not sure how loud a full Termi is and they have a noise limit of 105dB 2) there are videos on YouTube of folks doing 190 on the straight so the Multi might be a bit under powered Should I forget it?
If it's a full decat Termignoni I'd say borderline but you might just swing it if it's a drive by rather than a static noise test. Given your location I guess its Odiham and 190 may be achievable by a very few superbike heros but for the rest of the mere mortals that will be going the Multistrada is more than capable of aquitting itself. Definitely do not forget it because you will miss out on a brilliant day and the opportunity to learn something about your bike you will not do on public roads. When is it, I might just join you on my 1200s ? Andy
Stop it! Do the track day, feck everyone else on track, as you need to look after yourself! All others should also do the same! Tape your mirrors and speedo, ... There will always be azzholes, but hopefully picked up by the company running it... HAVE FUN!!! bike is not underpowered!... I've been made to look silly with peeps on a 400 when I've been on my R6!!!... It's all about enjoying the day! He'll, I've even seen 125's in the fast group!, and they were quick!
Did a track day on Mutley at Brands last year, I have the full Termi system, just over the noise limit and they asked to put my core in! I never bothered, ran all day, it was the loudest thing there but it was glorious! Your Db killer should get you through noise testing ok, Mutley was superb! Never under powered, by the end of the day the 3 fastest bikes in my group was me and another Mutley and a slab side gsxr! Do it! You will love it!
If its odiham you'll be fine. Just take baffles in case they have had complaints. And not many see 190 ;-)
Underpowered, I don't think so. I have done 2 track days on mine and it is brilliant. Stick some road orientated tyres on it. Metzler Z8s or Michelin PR3s and have a great time. Do not take any notice of anybody who tells you to feck every one else on track. You will quickly be kicked off the circuit by a decent operator. It is just the wrong attitude and will not be conducive to enjoying the day, because in everbodies eyes you will be the Knob that needs avoiding, on track in garage/paddock or cafe. You will probably get Multi riders a bad name as well, so don't do it! Rant over, just grow up.i
OMCC run a decent day as its all club members so generally well behaved. Easy to learn layout, grip is ok altho they added a lot of paint last year which made it bumpier
As has already been said, if it's Odiham you're doing, there will be a few there from the forum (myself included). It's a low pressure event so you can go as fast as you're comfortable with. The Multi will be fine and certainly quicker that the guy who brings an old 1920s thing that runs on caster oil! Yes bring your baffles and some tape to cover lights and mirrors. It's a great opportunity to see what your bike is capable of (in my case it's certainly more capable than I am). Feel free to drop me a line closer to the date. I'll either be on an 848 or a Triumph Speed Triple
Airfield/track details please ;-) Multistrada 1200 exhaust sound / noise level with full Termignoni exhaust system, baffle in (done around 14,000 miles so the 'packing' may not be as good as it was) - guess who's not going to a track day at Castle Combe Circuit [exhaust noise/sound level limit 105 dB]. Noise level static test, 7500 rpm (approx 75% of redline rpm.....10700 for the MTS1200 although max power at 9250 rpm apparently). With hind sight I should have said the redline was at a lower level, might have got me through. Yes lots of guys have done track days....one of my fave pics to date... ...lots more here: Multistrada 1200 MTS1200 Track, Race Circuit, 'Stunt' & other 'action' shots - AndyW-inuk
RAF Odiham. first is on of the year is 27th April Odiham Motorcycle Club Castle Coombe is notorious for having very strict noise restrictions and a grumpy tester.......I get the impression that if he doesn't like you the wand goes just a bit closer to the can!
As said Odiham is a good day out, I've booked in for the April date. My KTM RC8R fitted with an Akra can blew 115 at Castle Doom, had to rev it to 8,000 ffs. They're very finicky about a bit of noise.
Castle Combe have been shafted by a noise nuisence order (imposed after a bunch of 2nd home owners moved next to a race track then complained about the noise ) so they have very strict noise limits and test at higher revs than the vast majority of other circuits. Multis are very capable on trackdays, i've been overtaken by loads of em...
I only just passed the noise test with the standard can at Snet last year, guy said it was on the limit! I also shaved off most of my sidestand, you might want to consider that it touches down very early!
Thanks. "......I get the impression that if he doesn't like you the wand goes just a bit closer to the can!" ....you trying to tell me something?! lol
Not at all! In my experience its got nothing to do with the person or bike being tested.......more about which side of the bed he got out of!
Doom don't use ACU regs either which is very unhelpful. You'd pass at most I reckon, given its 5k revs not 3/4!
the noise nazi at Snetterton has a db meter that over reads, it's a known fact. It needs to be calibrated or as many more people would prefer he need to be given a slap, he lets the whole circuit down with his attitude.
