Split carbs on 900 SS

  1. Hi there WW. Nice idea... Im up in Yorkshire, so it would be a bit of a trek to Dorset. When is the Southern rally? Im going to be at Goodwood on the weekend of the 15th and 16th (not on the bike though), but other weekends might work out.

Is there anyone on this Forum with an unmodified 900 two valver?

  2. Chewy, DOC Southern Rally 7th-9th Sept

  3. I do have an unmodded 900 engine but not in a bike, i have dyno runs from unmodded bikes.

  4. When even the road testers of the day realised Ducati had got the gearing wrong, and changed it by upping the rear sprocket, that's pretty unlikely!

    Road Test

Apart from smaller front sprocket, and a stay-down side stand, by bike is standard. Quite happy keeping it that way, but I have only had it three (very wet) months!

  5. My engine is currently unmodified appart from the gearing, most of my mods to date have been cosmetic

  6. I have a standard one.......and one with split FCR's, hi comps, gas flowed etc etc.
I couldnt make my mind up, so i had both

  7. Why a smaller front sprocket, does the bike not rev enough? get a 16 tooth and eat the miles, you can always change down a gear to make more noise!

  8. I live in London and a 14T front sprocket results in a lot less slipping of the clutch at slow speed. Not that I'm suggesting the 900SS should be kept in town, I use it to escape

  9. Not when you live in Weymouth it isn't. :upyeah:

  10. As Imola said the Southern Rally is on the weekend of 7th - 9th Sepetember at Newlands Holiday Park in the picturesque village of Charmouth, Dorset. Entry is £35 which includes two nights camping (other options are available but you'll need to book direct with Newlands). There is a BBQ Friday evening, a ride out on Saturday morning and a buffet meal and presentation on Saturday evening (and free tea/coffee and bacon rolls in the mornings). Kids are free and it is open to non-members and even non-Ducati owners (we even had someone on a H***A last year!!).

PM me if anyone is interested. Oh, and Grandad normally comes along if he can manage to escape from matron for the weekend!!

  11. Did you find your unmodified two valver?

  12. I know of a couple kicking around but really the modified bikes are so much nicer to ride why would anyone want to keep theirs standard? I like to think that, if it weren't for all the performance stifling regulations that they have to comply with, Ducati would be producing something much closer to the modified bikes that we love so much. Really all we're doing is unleashing the potential of the design. Oh, and bankrupting ourselves!!!

  13. Yup! lol

  14. totally agree!

  15. Its either spending the money on the bike or the missus. I wonder which one gets the seal of approval

  16. flowers are cheap enough, cheaper than 41 fcr's.

  17. Bit behind the ball sorry, but I have split FCR 41s with short Malossi manifolds on my 1990 900SS. You cannot use a push/pull setup unless you use two, two stroke style cable splitter boxes. When I purchased the bike it came with a 90 degree throttle single cable to splitter, then a cable to each carb. I've changed it to a Tomaselli Domino TZ, 77 degree twin pull throttle with a cable to each carb. Works great but it's faarkin heavy lol. Bit like my clutch..
