Iconic Things you own.

  1. disagree there , the iphone in years to come will be classed as iconic , once technology has replaced the mobile phone as it is now.

  2. It's amazing how many items on here that ring bells for me...
    998s
Wayfarers (had since the mid -80's)
10 hole Martins (burgundy with yellow stitching, of course)
Barbour - same one for 22 years, with all the damage you'd expect from the age - the tattier the better - sadly I had the cuffs repaired on it a couple of years ago - but thankfully they are getting a bit tatty again
    501's and an original Levi's 70's jacket
    Tilley lamp
A cheap 50 year old+ Rotary wind-up watch my late father gave me when I was a teenager - I still use it as my daily watch despite owning a couple of Longines devices
12' Hardy Longbow circa 1960's - still got my grandfather's home made multiplier (he was an engineer) attached to it - it's great for getting over that 50 yard ledge before the depth drops away at Dungeness
Henry Miller's Nexus, Sexus & Plexus first edition, signed Iain Banks' Walking on Glass and the Wasp Factory
    Singer peddle sewing machine
I did have the first 200 editions of Stan Lee's Iron Man comics that I collected as a kid and the 1st edition of the Independent until they were stolen in the boot of my Ford Cortina back in the 80's - bastards!
Filofax - but I don't use it any more!
I've got Zeppelin's II as well!
Beatles White album - still with the photos inside - but I need to get a record deck if I'm ever gonna play it again...

  3. maurice lacriox watch - old fashoined automatic - see through back 1980 - from house sale proceeds

    1200 abs
    guzzi 1100 sport 1995
    le velo

  4. Golf V5 mobile aquarium

  5. Reading through the thread, I really don't think people fully get the icon thing. A Mk1 Mini is an Icon, an Iphone is not. A London Taxi is an Icon, a Roberts digital radio is not. A bowler hat and a pair of classic Doc Martins are Icons, a pairs of Uggs are not
Of course this is just my opinion and I could be wrong

  6. Surely Uggs are Australian DM's?

  7. :frown::frown:

  8. I can't imagine the school bully looking quite so menacing with a pair of Uggs on...

  10. That's because I'm not wearing Uggs.

  12. Not exactly owned by me but...shared responsibility for a few Boeing 747-400 Jumbo's..

  13. Yes a 747 is an Icon :upyeah::upyeah:

  14. I'll see your 747 and raise you a Concorde

Mind you I don't own or haven't been in one (apart from the one at Yeovilton)

Shame one thing on my bucket list was to go supersonic :(

  15. The entire works of Shakespeare on 2 volumes printed in 1823.

Also a random book that was pretty much published as a counter argument and a mockery of a rivals publication, printed in 1680 and limited to just a run of 8 copies or so I can gather.
I like that fact that someone was so angry that they published a small book in response, also like that fact I have random things in my house older than the USA.

    Oh and a 748!

  16. I dispute that Uggs are not iconic. They are, and they have to be that brand, not imitations. The Moonboot is iconic as well, if it is made by the original people (whose name escapes me momentarily). If Uggs aren't iconic now, they soon will be. They are their own thing.

Crocs will never be iconic, because they are just so foul. They will be thought of as a fad (not the same thing). Real iconic stuff never really goes out of fashion or maintains a timeless coolness. A Perfecto-style leather jacket is iconic, and has been since the 50s. No one has mentioned it yet, but assume plenty of people must have one.

  17. Electric guitar, innit? And you can make an electric guitar any shape you like. Very many have been tried, but none looks better than the Stratocaster. You only have to see that silhouette and you know you are talking about rock and roll.

  18. Iconic my arse

  19. Is it? Why?

  20. Not iconic yet, but maybe in a couple of years. It's on for hours each day.
