  2. Get it rewound by West Country windings. They put higher rated cable on too as the OEM cable just gets hot and burns out. Like the picture above. Then put an Electrex Reg/Rect on. Dont use push bayonets to connect the 2 yellow wires to the reg/rec. Solder them and use proper insulating sleeves. Add a new battery and you can kiss goodbye to charging issues in the future. Plus I keep a spare Reg/Rec under my seat. (habit as I bought a new one when my electrex one failed and they replaced it free of charge and thus i ended up with a spare, which ive not used in the 8yrs+ since i did it but old habits die hard and I still keep it under the seat). Relocating the reg/rec to somewhere else is a maybe too. It gets very hot down by the front pot and is not really an ideal location.

  3. The thicker the gauge, the lower the voltage drop and thus the less heat and resistance.

  4. They replaced mine free of charge and the one i have on it is still going, no hassles after 8yrs+. I can only say it how I see it.

  5. Fully appreciate that, but a free replacement is no good when your stuck miles from home, the Shingengen Mosfet is well known to be a far superior replacement and costs the same. Why use an inferior one when you don't have to.

  6. I think that Stator looks fried... Get it re-wound for sure, our one had a dead section in it, but to us it looked okay. It actually looked a lot better than that one, sorry to say :-(

  7. Stator changed near new ome for now, getting 70v at 4000 revs.

Still no charge so changed rr and we have charge all fine.

    So Reg/rec fault.

    Cheers j

  8. Is this one a direct replacement for the oem one on a 749?

    Thanks.

  9. It is designed as a replacement for the three phase reg/rec so I don't see why not, as you can see in the link you will have to connect the wires yourself, it wont just plug straight in.
In my case it is fitted to an early single phase 748 by only connecting the two wires from the stator instead of the three which you will have.
