The Baron again!!

  1. The video would have been better if the camera was fix mounted and if he didnt keep rolling on / off the throttle or looking left to right very 300 milliseconds  Also, the video was a bit frantic, done nothng for me but everyone's taste is different.

The 1098 looked / sounded greeeat... Switch camera between bikes next time.

I rode an 899 in -1 degrees, on wet roads. Some bike, mighty elecs keep you upright and frint wheel down - even in 2nd / 3rd gear roll ons. I have access to one now ( i think ) , so now the weather is better i will make a vid..

  2. I test rode one recently and was very impressed. The most 'Jap' feeling Ducati to my mind. (lived and breathed Gixers until last year).
Now have to convince myself I NEED a second bike! Didn't have a problem with the indicator/mode switch either. Must be my light touch

  3. I must admit, I raised my eyebrows at the indicator spamming comment. Not something I have ever done myself. If I am unsure, a quick glance at the dash lets me know if I have left it on. I see where he is coming from though, especially now his mate is on here and may grass me up if I say anything derogatory lol! :upyeah:

  4. Very much enjoyed his vid on the 899. Helped make my mind up. How's your wittle finger Rixxy duc? lol :p

  5. I thought that to, but the new Monster uses the same system. When I rode that for the first time I made the same mistake. Thinking I hadn't canceled the indicators, press again and I see the menu. It's no biggie because it disappears again after a few seconds if you make no changes but it's something to get used to.

  6. Menus were just a restaurant thing about 25 years ago and that was good.
Then at about that time, they became a computer thing, and it was quite exciting - all those possibilities and choices!

Now everything is a fucking menu. You can't even ride your bike without having to deal with menus, or use a camera to take a pic, or use a frigging oven.
    Choice. Who needs it, eh?

  7. I looked at a few Baron videos last night. I find them very entertaining. The reviews are excellent, because they tell you what you really want to know, rather than all the guff off the press release that you can't really be bothered with, like the precise diameter of the forks and the coating that has been applied to them. And I like the fact that the Baron can still call it as he sees it, which makes him a far more credible tester. The test of the naked BMW 1000R thing was very interesting.

But I am now confused. If the S1000RR had to go, how come the baby Panigale has arrived, if it has? And was the new BMW bought, and if so, how come if the 899 has just been bought? It's confusing me to death. We need some sort of bike owning chronology. Baron?

  8. Just to help you out - Sold the S1000 RR as he liked it but fancied something different but didn't really know what. He had a s1000 on order as he liked the idea of a more comfortable road bike but. He then won a KTM 1290 R super duke for the summer and maybe forever - Yes jammy sod. So he cancelled his order on the S1000 but BMW Bharnstormer Kindly gave him one to test. And he test rode the 899 as he was told it was a good bike and after riding the 1199 he was keen to see how different and he loved it so much he bought one……..

Hope this helps, its been tough for me to follow and I'm one of his pals so god knows what its like trying to figure it out from his vids ;-)

Oh and my finger has recovered for those interested.

  9. Good to hear the finger has recovered. :upyeah:

Which colour did the Baron go for on the 899 Rixxy Duc?

  10. "I was hoping in the vid that the bikes would be exchanged and that we'd have the Baron's comparison of the 1098 vs the 899. That would have been very interesting."

My mate just purchased an 899, I have a 1098. I have not ridden it but can say it feels tiny in comparison and the pegs feel a lot higher. Not much good for me at 6ft 4".

  16. Hey BVG. Nice to see you around these parts again. I have to say as I have to ride my 1098s in Central London, I felt your pain riding your 899 through Fulham and Soho. Toastie knackers?

  17. Hey Baron! Have you swapped the seat over yet? Bloody rain.. lol Cheers.

  18. yes, rather toasty - and that was March!
Yep, they allowed me to swap it for the comfort seat which has the extra height i wanted (6ft3) but is nice and absorbent for my anal leakage and pile infestation.
To be fair though, the original seat is probably just as comfortable and has less pressure on the wrists due to the decrease in height - you feel more 'inside' the bike - which i like. If i had my choice again - id just stick with the original.

  20. 6ft 3" eh baron? I sat on my mates 899 and found it very compact in comparison to my 1098. I felt a bit gutted to be honest as I quite fancied one myself in the near future. How do you feel with the size of the 899? BTW I am 6ft 4". Do you think the footpegs are high? I ain't knocking the bike, just gutted as it feels too small for me lol!
