749 Gear indicator

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Mongoose, Apr 8, 2014.

  1. Hi all. Just been looking at these gear change indicators from demon tweeks on flee bay and it states that it plugs into the original loom. Has anyone tried one of these or had any dealing with these? Do they really just 'plug in'? And do they really work? After a short trip around essex today the old girl was feeling quite lively in top gear until I realised it wasn't actually in top. Counting was never a strong point for me so maybe this little number box showing me numbers would help because I'm sure I've got a seven speed 749.

  2. Do you have a link to one of those on ebay?

  3. Nah sorry salmore. PZRacing make them. I found them on Demon tweeks web site.

  4. i see, i'll have a look. sorry i dont have any experience in those, but would not mind one of those on my bike, so i'll wait with you for someone who might have used this before.

  5. I would like one too, group discount at this rate!!! ;)

  6. in reality only £10 more haha, as the cheaper one has a £7 shipping fee -_-. but that's not too expensive at all it looks like, i might be tempted. has anyone actually installed one of those? how hard is the installation?

  7. Seller 1 £53 + £7 = £60

    Demon Thieves £79.99

    £79.99
    -
    £60.00

    = £19.99

  8. He has already shown interest in a gear indicator, so that proves his counting isn't up to much.

  14. I have a PZRacing indicator on my Yamaha FZ.

Just plugged straight in. Bit of a fiddle setting it up once installed and choosing what colour display I wanted, but works perfectly

  15. Am I the only person who doesn't see the need for them?
If you're flat out but bouncing off the limiter like never before you're probably in 5th. Even cruising I'd rather give the lever an extra prod to be sure rather than fork out £60+
Saying that though, people I know with a couple of types fitted haven't reported any problems with them.

  16. Gear Indicators come into their own on track...so you know you haven't gone down too many going into corners and risk locking the back end up...being in the right gear saved me at least 1sec a lap and made my times more consistant.

I have a GiPro fitted to the 916.

  17. Well I do actually have one built into the dash of my track bike. But still don't see the need for it. Every laps the same isn't it? So you pretty soon know it's three down into 1st corner, 2 down for corner 2 etc. That's going to be constant unless you get traffic or yellow flag, but then you get time to think more anyway. I guess it's differences like this that make the human race so diverse. I hardly look at my dash, maybe glance at the temperatures down a straight but that's about it. TBH, the tacho doesn't even have a scale on it so not much to look at anyway :D
