Hi all, Whilst my MTS was in for a service, I filled the time with a few test rides. I took out an 1199 demo. Whilst most of the bike was awsome, the hunting at constant throttle really spoilt the ride. I've searched for, and read a mixed back of responses from when the bikes first came out. Is this something that goes away at the first service (map updated perhaps ?) Or does it only affect standard bikes that still have the exhaust valve ? Next, what is its fuel range ? (to light & with light on) I realise this is affected by how you ride, but an idea of normal sports bike riding vs flat out everywhere would be great. The dealer said it only does about 10 miles from when the fuel light comes on. That might be a problem if on a tour to find a local garage... I really want to love the bike, but at present constant hunting and tank range mean its not for me. Thanks in advance for your replies
I,ve had mine a year now and ride daily - hunting at low revs, low throttle is a constant. It doesnt go away,. I heard that moving to a different rear sprocket helps but I am not going to do that until the thing needs replacing Fuel range I get 85/90 before the light comes on - never risked running it much beyond 90 miles. too risky
hunting does not go away its a pain in the arse at steady throttle , although mine was much worse at new because the breather pipes were not connected under the tank, and came off again last week
The worsed range I have had 78 to the light on and the best out with a few folkes was 122. A friend of mine who has one rode his bike with the light on from Peterhead to Aberdeen 32 miles I think I would have been twitching after 15/20 miles. I've gotten used to the hunting, but do try not to ride in town or heavy traffic.
I do not get much hunting, although I keep the revs either beneath 4K or above 5K. That seems to be when it can hit. It was vastly improved by an up map some time ago. Re fule range, I get to 90 and fill up. Never tested the max after fuel light but others have said it is around 17-20 miles. Irrespective of that, I love this bike!
Very little hunting on mine either, has termi end cans etc. Fuel about 90 to 100 miles before light comes on. Had bike 12 months, people say to much power for the road. Which is probably true, but as you don't ride it flat out you never get bored with its performance it always surprises you on each ride out. So far I cannot fault it, I feel really privileged to be in the position to own such a bike.
Thanks guys, really helpful. I guess I need another longer test ride to see if I can live with the hunting. My feeling is I cant, but I would so like to have one. Tank range is an issue too. i can get 120 to fuel light on my R1 without too much of a problem, even when riding fairly hard (granted it comes down to mid 90s if I spend al day in 1st at high revs). 80 or 90 would mean real problems on longer trips to the likes of the Alps. Is a bigger tank than the standard 17l one available like the 1198 SP has ? I'm tempted to go ride an 1198SP, see how that compares.
About 90 miles on a tank. I had the fuelling sorted by CJS and the throttle is super smooth now. I know the argument is why should you have to but I'm guessing they have to compromise on the fuelling to pass all the emissions regs etc.
Why is it that fuel range on a sports Ducati is always crap. From my 748 through to my 1098 the light always appears to be showing at around 90miles, maybe 100. I have ran out completely from 10 to 20 miles on most of my Ducatis which is a worry on a Sunday especially when not many garages are open in the countryside. My Blade on the other hand goes 130 miles or so until the light.
Erm....size of tank?! Arent Japanese bikes mostly 17l or larger...dont think I ever got more than 14l in an 848
Yes I suppose, the Blade is 18ltrs while the 848 is 15.5ltrs, the 899/1199 is 17ltrs though so that 'should' give at least 120 miles before the light you would think.
11l = 100 miles on near,y all the bikes I've ever owned. Multi has a much larger tank but still delivers about the same. Only time it changes is long distance cruising when it goes to maybe 8 per 100
Mine's a 2013 1199S - my first Ducati. I struggled with the hunting after Japanese IL4s but have recently fitted Termi cans (std headers) and either the new map or the removal of the actuation of the exhaust valve (the valve stays in the exhaust in the open position) has pretty much fixed the problem.
I had loads of issues with mine from new with problems like this, lack of throttle control, hunting, making the bike shake, crappy roll-on etc. It also smoked like crazy throughout the 18 months I owned it. I rode two other Panigale demo bikes and they were not anything like as out of shape as mine. Both had smooth throttles and no hunting. But I am also aware of a few others complaining about either hunting (destabilising bike) or lousy first touch of the throttle (which mine certainly had). Eventually after a lot of complaining, the bike was completely stripped. Several faults were found. Engine was completely rebuilt by hand with a large number of new internals. Electronics were updated. Bike is perfect now, with flawless throttle connection and fueling, no hunting, super linear power delivery and a silky smooth engine. It is frankly a different bike. It makes you wonder about build consistency to see quite how dramatic a difference this made when I got one back that was handbuilt and flawless. Just a thought....... But you will still run out of fuel at 110mls if you are riding it properly! Probably down to 80-90 on track.....
To have to do all that ChamMTB did to get a decent bike is frankly horrendous. To be honest I am just not loving this bike at the moment. One new engine, just lost the love!!! Cant seem to trust it waiting for the next thing to leave me stranded
exactly kwak mines going in again this will be 7 different things done under warranty and don't for get ducati we paid you 20k for the pleasure ,
