There's no limit to the production run, no numbered plaque or certificate. Mine was ordered from the factory and arrived in 8 weeks.
I would pay a premium for the R for the exclusivity.. I'm nowhere near good enough to make a difference on the track riding an R as opposed to the S that's half the price.. Shame that the Panigale hasn't won in WSBK but it's a matter of time now I believe. When that happens, I see more demand for the R..
I was in Almeria with a guy last week who had a Panigale R. He'd just put some basic track panels on and was using it as it was intended. 3 days getting quicker and quicker, using his data logger etc. It looked and sounded amazing on the move.
I'm taking the R to Cadwell for 2 days in July, Mugello in Sept, and any other event I can get in the diary. It's not going to be a pampered trophy bike. Looking at track livery at the moment. Ducati sell a full set of OEM track fairings for £500, which is a bargain when compared to third party options.
^^^ I hope you didn't take that the wrong way I was just saying it's great to see people using them properly. Mugello ? I'm doing the Focussed Events trip from 29th Aug, is it that one ?
Not at all, it would be a fair criticism anyway. I'm no racer and would in likelihood be faster on the base model. My R got drenched in the first 24 hours and it still has the saharan rain dust on its wheel. I'm going Mugello in Sept with No Limits. I like the guys there, one of my friends is an instructor for them and I get a discount. Nothing against FE, they run OK TDs, you get a good price and I've used them in the past. Saying that, I wouldn't want my Pani in one of their trucks after having a few fairing marked by them.
f/e hes a wanka , totally took the piss years ago in Cartagena , double booked the number of track day numbers and half the English sat in the pitts because the track was full of Spaniards ,never again
Same happened to me at Almeria with FE. Lots of locals wandering around the pits, nothing went missing, Brits felt nervous though.
The Ducati fairings are a bargain imo. 500 for all the main fairings and seat unit is the same as what you would pay aftermarket so I was quite surprised Ducati were selling them for that price. I was planning on a new Pani and ordered the fairings at the same time but ended getting one private so need to get the nice men at Snells to order them for me still. I'd seriously consider an R next time around, a lot of money but very desirable.
I'm deciding what colours to paint them and bring rather influenced by a Demsocidic on The Bike Shed.
Be interested to hear what deal you got? I was looking doing a deal on one in Italia Moto on Saturday This is still for sale, wonder if it's worth a cheeky bid. Ps Thinking about pulling the trigger on an R!
