considering 1098

  1. hi all,

I was considering changing my gs for something else, but when I saw what it was worth on a trade I decided to keep it. So now I am considering getting myself a 1098 as a second bike. There are a few knocking around over here(Ireland), so I am wondering what do I need to look out for. I am looking at a 07 1098 at the moment it has 3300 miles and hasn't been used in 2 years, it also hasn't had a service in those 2 years. Would it need belts done as it is 5 years old even with the low mileage? what kind of money would i need to spend to get it ready for road use? It also has termi's and factory chip in it, do these cause any issues?

Thanks for taking the time to read this post, I appreciate any input you have on. It is my first post so be gentle:upyeah:

  2. Factor in a full service, belts and oil and check over at least

    Then enjoy

  3. Unfortunately yes, you will have to see your local GP to have a strange grin removed, it is a recurring condition and at this moment there is no known cure. Sorry m8. :-(

  4. Just hold on to the bugger!

No probs with the cans and chip (ecu) dash should read "racing" if the matching one has indeed been fitted.
Belt service isn't cheap, so check first.

    Good luck.

  5. Hi and welcome, what part of Ireland are you in? I have a feeling that one is sold, pal of mine is in the market for a 1098 and was enquiring about it. O'Neills in Tralee have a 97 one .

  6. It is indeed gone. I am in Leixlip, will check out o'neills thanks!

  7. Check for condensation in the headlights and in the dash. Mines got a bit of that, but shes still a sweet, sweet bike :upyeah: Yep full service done by somebody who knows what the bleeding hell they are doing. Termis and chip......unleash that beast  just hope your neighbours like the sound of a loud and angry bike. Oh and get a black one if you can, so sweet with the red frame............Jeez, Ive used 'sweet' three times in one post. My mind must be telling me something

  8. Sweet, thanks!! The search continues....

  9. I know you mentioned an 07 1098, but you have simply got to get a test ride on an R, it's a different bike on so many levels, not just price. Ride one, just the once it's a very, very special bike.

  10. Budget will not stretch to r due to impending wedding, it could possibly stretch to s. Both are pretty rare here.

  11. but on the road wil you notice that much of a difference? i think if youre a track orientated rider then the higher spec bikes make sense (assuming you can explore the performance)...although a bit out of practice, im no slouch but certainly wouldnt be able to come close to truly pushing probably any of the range on the road..

  12. Everyone I know whos had an R or ridden one says you can tell. The engine is smoother, suspension components better, all in thee is something extra

  13. I've rode an R on the road and it is a completely different animal to the 1098.

You don't notice the extra 100cc because it is sooo much smoother and delivered in a way that just feels more refined, with way better fuelling than the stock 1098.

Its still a bonkers beast on the road in whatever guise you go for tho.

And no...I was nowhere near pushing it's limits, a country mile away in fact, but they are better fettled!

  14. Ohhh yeeees!! Very true !! :upyeah:
