Somerset Ducatisti

  1. Thanks to those who sent me their email addresses. Unfortunately my PC has gone phut and so my plan to send out a general email is on hold until it's return.
Half a dozen Somerset Ducatisti visited The Halfway in April in order to check things out and we feel able to report that all is well in deepest Somerset, no water wings required at this time! There can be no excuses to miss Somerset Ducatisti's official launch at The Halfway House on Tuesday 13th May.
On Sunday 18th May Compton Abbas airfield is hosting The Italian Job. Italian bikes, cars, aircraft and food. I'm double booked on the 18th but, having missed the Bristol Italian Day, am inclined to cancel the other booking and head down to Compton Abbas. How about meeting up en-route for a ride in to the airfield? The Warminster service area might be a suitable spot, any other suggestions?
Hoping for a good turnout on the 13th, see you all at The Halfway.

  2. I'll be at the Halfway House on Tues 13th Steve - should be on a Ducati rather than the SuperDuke this time ;) - but it may not be till 9pm.

Which service area are you talking about for the 18th en route to Compton Abbas?

  3. North of Warminster on the roundabout where the A36 meets the A350, I'm pretty sure that there is a Moto or similar. Not sure that it's convenient for you southerners though?

  4. Looking at the map again perhaps somewhere around Wincanton might be better?

  5. Is anyone from the southwest going to the Italian day at the ace on Sunday?

  6. Not me DD, doing the Cheddar Gran Fondo on Sunday. The Ace....isn't that somewhere east of Swindon? My map says "Yur be dragons" in that blank, uncharted, area.

  7. Sparkford looks good. Never been to the services, OK for a bit of breakfast before heading off?

  8. I had to google that as although I can see the Mendips from my house I hadn't heard the the gran Fondo. 119 miles!!!!! Well done to you, I wish you well and a comfy rubber ring. we will watch out for dragons if we get to the Ace, it isn't a ride to write home about, even avoiding motorways.

  9. Sadly I have to work this Saturday and Sunday, otherwise I'd be tempted

  10. Thanks DD, sadly such respect is ill deserved. There are 3 routes of which the 119 is the longest. I'm only doing the shorter version.....I'm saving the long one for next year!!

  11. Cant do the 18 at Compton Abbas which is a real bummer because I love that place, great food and some great old aircraft buzzing around. Dave, not sure if you've done Zig Zag hill before, its not the Fuckya pass, its almost a three point turn jobbie in places.

  12. Sorry for the late reminder but delay due to broken laptop now returned to (almost) full health!

Tuesday night meet tomorrow 13th and it does look rather like the weather is going to be kind for our inaugural meeting at the Halfway House.

Next Sunday 18th is the Italian Job at Compton Abbas. Dave has suggested that the services at Sparkford might be a good place for anybody who fancies meeting up for a ride to the airfield. We can have a chat about this and times etc tomorrow.

    See you tomorrow....I hope!

  13. I'll be there about 8-8:30 :)

  14. Hi All,

Thanks for the support and I hope that you had an enjoyable evening.

Weston-Super-Mare bike night tomorrow, Thursday 15th.

For those intending to tootle along to the Italian Job on Sunday the meet up is at the Hazelgrove Services on the A303/A359 roundabout (BA22 7JE) at 1030. I trust that I’ve got the right one as discussions seem to suggest that there is more than one service area in close proximity.

Somerset Bike Day at Haynes Motor Museum on Sunday 8th June. I believe that Chris (Moocow) is thinking of going along.

Next Somerset Ducatisti Meeting is Tuesday 10th June.

Castle Combe Race meeting, featuring classic bikes, on 21st and 22nd June. John McGuinness will be riding the ex Mike Hailwood 296cc Honda 6.

The Sammy Miller Museum Moto Italiano is on the 20th July.

    See you on Sunday.

  15. We are still here! Too much social media for an old buzzard to cover I'm afraid. I send out a monthly email to any interested parties within the SW area. If you do not receive this monthly "highlight" and would like so to do then please give me your email address and I will add it to my round robin.

  16. The old buzzard with a round robin ... I'm sure there are endless bird-themed jokes to be had here if I could be arsed ;)

  17. Trust Mr Hicks to make me look like a Great Tit.....
