possibly put an end to the presidency as well. i wonder what numbers support this murderous act. forgive my ignorance but do woman have any political rights out there. why isnt there an out cry from their community or does the news not report it .
Not sure we are in a position to take the moral high ground here. Living in the west, mostly in the northern hemisphere, most of us seem happy to live a lifestyle which is based on these societies remaining at the stage of development which our country was at 2-400 years ago. We used to have kids going up chimneys, working in cotton mills etc etc. Now, via multinationals, we have been happy to export all of this to countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan etc. Don't get me wrong I'm as guilty as the next person, most of the clothes I'm wearing were put together in some sweatshop by kids somewhere. Agree with baldyboy, its all about power and money. We get an affordable lifestyle, and a half decent pension fund, and the people at the top of the tree of the multinationals get the latest yacht and a decent mansion. None of this excuses the stoning of a woman, but not sure why we expect anything else.
Indeed several countries in the world are infested with hordes of ghastly, evil people who love to murder, torture and rape others with impunity. Most of those countries, needless to say, are Islamic. Each time a fresh dreadful piece of news comes out we gasp with shock and horror. However all this has nothing at all to do with the Overseas Aid budget. As I have explained before, this is not charity. The "Aid" money mainly comes back to the UK in the form of goods and services bought from the UK, salaries and expenses paid to UK-based personnel, and competitive advantages gained over other countries. The rest buys much-needed influence in the recipient nations. If the Overseas Aid budget was cut, we would just be cutting off our own noses. If it were possible to cut it without damaging our own economy more, don't you think it would have been cut to nil already?
And we're so different here? So called Celebs fiddling with whatever they fancy, Police in Oxford, Brum, Nottingham, Bradford and others ignoring hundreds of vulnerable people being groomed, raped and sold. The people who perpetrate these crimes in Pakistan and other countries don't want our aid, the WHO or the UN. They want to keep their communities isolated from the outside world and ignorant in order to retain power. By giving aid we're helping the downtrodden, the victims and the powerless change their lives for the better. We're better people by having such aims and ambitions.
this ISNT about a few mind minor-% of evil do-badders, this is about wholesale acceptance of an evil and unjustified, in any circumstances, treatment of women (predominantly, if not 99%) where a father/brother/uncle/moth considers it an acceptable outcome for a minor indiscretion like 'looking at a boy'! one which the govt seem either powerless, or want to appear powerless, to resolve. Take away their gravy train, that may help them find away....that is my question. Will it??
heard on the radio this morning on way in to work. at least a thousand reported cases a year off this in Pakistan . not just woman too. and yip appears to be very much to do with empowerment.
Over 1000 women per year are killed by their partners (HuffPo) and domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women (domesticpeace.com) in America. Not sure whether we are any better.
This is far from traditional domestic violence tho, as awful as that is, as its a community acceptance thing. Im sure in parts of the world, giving the old lady a slap now and then is acceptable, but do t think comparable.
