1200 Pilot Power 3s

  1. Anyone tried these on the MTS1200?

Need to clear 3000 miles. Unfortunate that around 700 miles will be motorway on return leg of a one up Alps trip.
I am no Rossi but defo wont be plodding along ;)

  2. Had them on other bikes,as long as they are not run very hot for too long they are ok,and it sounds like for your purposes they will be very good, offer good dry and wet grip and will last several thousand miles,I have just put on Pirelli Angel GT,which defo offer better grip and feedback as well as a more comfortable ride in the dry,I have not yet given them a shakedown in the wet. I am told they are made in the same factory as Metzeler! And are very similar to Z8 s. In truth all the branded sport touring tyres have more grip than most of us will ever need, but if the Pirellis are good in the wet then they are my new default tyre.

  3. Try a search of the forum, loads of reports on them and other tyres. Basically a great all round tyre but can wallow at top speeds. Cheers.

  4. Yep,that links to the problem I had, prolonged high speed high temp knocked the stuffing out of them, and in tyre speak they went off,Infact the sipes make the tyre overheat in these conditions, hence less sipes on the PR4, Michelin deny such a condition exists, but the tyre reps confirm my findings.

  5. Did 7000 miles in all weathers and didn't fall off. Far better than the Scorpions. General consensus seems to be that they suit the Multi but I suppose it;s down to personal preference. I've just put a PR4 on the rear. Would've stuck with the 3s but they didn't have any in stock.

  6. Seems to be a bit cross over of tyres here. I have Pilot ROAD 3s now. Looking at Power 3s as a more sporty option and for better front end feel. Road 3s have enough grip but I just don't like the vagueness at the front end. Power 3s don't have the same sipes.

  7. PR4s are good so far, but not done many miles

  8. Haven't tried the Race 3s or anything similar since fitting the Road 3s which do everything I need them to. I went to Austria in June last year (from Ireland) and the Road 3s were excellent all the way and especially when I climbed some of the mountain roads where the temperature and grip was low. If you're not quite happy with the 3s then why not give the 4s a go?

  9. If the Road 3 is a follow on from the Pilot Pure then I found the front like on a knifes edge, very quick turn in off a steep profile, not for me,I like a more rounded profile which gives a continuos and steady change of angle rate, grip was good etc but not for me.

  10. having pr4's put on now anything will be better than the scorps

  11. I got as far as Austria and Italy as well, two up though, but also on Road 3s. Just looking for something a bit more sporty for this years more 'spirited' Alpine assault with the boys. Mileage not a big issue as long as I can clear 3k without being on slicks on the final leg of the tour (500 boring French miles followed by a long slog back up the M1)
I can go back to pipe and slippers tyres next year when the 'baggage' is back on the bike ;)

  12. I have had the Pilot Power 3 on for 5,000 miles (including a 2,500 Alpine trip using autoroute Calais to Lyon and back) and they are still OK today. I would say I am a fast but smooth rider which may mean I get a few more miles than the typical average. For comparison I changed the scorpions after 2,600 miles.

I think most of the replies are about the Pilot Road which is the rain oriented touring tyre. I will replace in a week or so before my next Euro trip and I will keep the Pilot Power, the life is good enough and I never push it in the wet, I want to maximise dry grip :upyeah:

  13. mate of mine just changed his pr3's after 8000 miles on his multi gone for the same again

  14. Lol. :upyeah: Where's me pipe?!

Don't know about the Mutley but the rear on my ZX10 won't get anywhere near 2k never mind 3k with spirited riding so understand your original question. Looks like DonaldDuc has got the answer you need so have a cracking and safe trip fella.
