Had the low key battery come up on the dash the other week and had one spare so i changed it and it went off for a few miles but then came back on so i changed it again thinking the one i had put in might of been a dud as i had it knocking around a long time but it came back on again, a friend said had you touched the battery when putting it in as this can loose voltage from it so i put another in and wore gloves as i did it but still it is coming up low battery. Has anybody else had this problem as i can guarantee it wont want to start when i am miles from home.
Mine does it quite regularly and over a fair length of time period. Obviously I ignore it and carry on, but I do have a spare battery, taped to the inside of my top box lid, just in case?
Ignoring it is what i have been doing after the third battery did nothing.It does make you wonder some times, all this tech supposed to make life easier and half the time it pisses you off.
I usually have the key in my right coat pocket and my phone in my left internal pocket so there is probably about 12 inches between them so i might try moving the key further away, thanks for the tips guys.
I used to have an iphone, and if I had that in the same pocket as my key the key didn't work at all - thumb the switch down and nothing happened. Took me a while to figure out what the problem was and had me a bit worried as I was in the middle of a European tour and though the bike had a fault. Now I always keep the key and the phone separate...
OP.....worth buying decent brands of 'button' batteries AND checking the expiry date that should be on the packaging - quite likely you have a duff batch of batteries ;-)
This has happened to me on three noticeable occasions, when I pull over, turn the motor off and inadvertently leave the red switch down and don't kill the dash lights. So when I restart, ie, raise the red switch, lower it, then raise it to press the starter button, on comes the Low Battery warning. Something to keep in mind as it's not there next time I restart. And leaving the key in the pillion seat lock doesn't help either (blush)
That sounds like a warning for the bike's battery Don rather than the key fob battery........there was a software update way back that was supposed to fix the issue with leaving the red slider in the down position. Pillion seat lock........get one of these cut and leave the Electronic key zipped up safe in one of your jackets inner pockets ;-)
I now have a spare black key for the pillion seat, and I think the bike battery is fine. It was my error for not shutting down the ignition properly, hence on the restart, the warning appeared, however it does disappear if I shut down and restart a second time.
+1 on the phone thing, mine often comes up with no key and normally coz I have the key and phone in same pocket
Exactly the same here. When I have the phone on top of my tankbag I get no key warning regularly. I've just learnt to ignore it.
