  1. Today took delivery of a 848evo well, enjoyed the test ride but today a chance for more miles and impressions brakes and handling compared to my '95 900ss are light years apart. Not too sure about the seat height maybe able to lower a little, sems very hard on the rear suspension dosen't even settle with my 14 1/2 stone are they all like this? Photos to follow and more questions !!

  2. Enjoy. Yes they are all like it. Yes they are very asjustable

  3. Yep... Rears stiffer than Rooney in an OAP home.... No adjustment on the rear ride height though as standard... Youll need a 1098 linkage for that... Forks are easy enough though (obviously).. Well, I say that I'd not attempt it myself.. Dealer for me

  4. Rob,
Did you get it from Hyside very local to you;)

  5. Hi, no Hyside did'nt have any used whilst I was looking ,so went to motorcycle centre to see a different 848 but came away with a younger model ( don't you always) time will tell if it was a good idea L O L.Rob.

  6. The rear is notoriously hard as fook from the factory.
Set rear sag/wind pre-load off and it will help loads.

  7. welcome Romford Dave

  8. Hyside are moving to a bigger shop near Johns of Romford very soon i hear, Where's the motorcycle centre are they Essex based.

  9. No their on the Eastbourne rd Blindley Heath Surrey their service seemed good with large stocks of most makes

  10. Welcome Dave. Yes they are rock hard and yes you can lower them. At a cost. :)

  11. Would the DP racefoam seat help lower the seat height? Ok not a lot but its a start. I'm pretty sure it was lower than the stock on my 1098

  12. just get a 1098 tie bar, they are adjustable, or similar from ebay

do a search on setting a bike up, there are a few recently, they have links to some sites which talk you thru sag etc if you don't know how to do it

  13. hi & welcome to the forum. there's a bloke near leeds who sets up suspension for just £30. might be worth having a scan about for someone local to you who could do it. i had mine booked in a couple of weeks ago but it was pissing it down so cancelled it til next week. i'm only 12 stone but the bike doesn't feel super hard from the back. last owner probably sorted the suspension out but there's no ride height adjuster on her.

  14. Thanks I will problerly check all the settings and return to stock then go from there

  15. As has been said the rear shock will be super hard from stock, winding off nearly all the pre load will help massively, with the shock set topped out with no rider sag obviously the ride height will be at its max, no rider sag is not a good thing as the shock has no travel in that direction so the ride will be harsh as hell, you can get a good setting and transform the bike with some simple adjustment to the rear shock, a little less comp damping will also help and this once sat on the bike should help your seat height, you have huge amount of adjustment with the 848.

  16. Welcome, enjoy, sure you will :upyeah:

  17. Firstly, welcome to the forum and a good choice of a bike my friend!

I actually got my suspension set up by Mike Dawson of MD Racing in Walton On Thames, he raced them so knows them back to front. Cost me £60 to tell me I'm a fat knacker and that the pre-load on the front was crap hence the diving effect on braking. The rear is a little stiff, yet as i had new tyres as well, I'm scrubbing those in also, so wont pass judgement on the rear shock settings yet. However the combination of both has transformed the bike.

If you're near WoT, then I'd pop in and say Cornish sent you...:)

  18. My settings

  19. Many thanks for the replies ,I think getting the suspension set up is going to be money well spent although I am getting used to it Very addictive isn't it

  20. Richie's set up refers to a 848 evo corse though specifically? Has Ohlins and the standard shock just has turns of adjustment if I'm not mistaken.
