If you're not convinced by now, you should be! Go for the Ducati box, it has everything you want and looks the business. As others have said, it's quick and easy to release with the key, but it just snaps on without the key. Simples! I've done over 5000 miles continental touring with the better half on the back and she loves the backrest. Have fun Kevin
The limitation is more on the mounting than the box. Couple of the Givi monokey racks that fit this bike both take the same boxes but have different max load figures, one being 6kg even with support arms! That aside the manual also has the max loads, assuming Ducati fitments. 35kg combined is fairly impressive considering I took 15kg in a suitcase for my last 2 week holiday by car. Physical space is more the issue unless your packing dark matter
I would say there was absolutely no choice there, the Ducati one looks great and the Givi is functional. I have a very similar Givi, which I have used for touring so its out once a year or less.
I like the Ducati box but its the rack I have issues with. Whilst no doubting of its capabilities , aesthetics was never a design brief. I didn't want to keep taking it on and off so wanted something I could live with. The SRA7401 by Givi will also accept the Duc box, good match with the Matt chrome MTS's or powder coat to your preference. Also useful to put a magnetic tank bag on. Edit, forgot to add you do have to put a bit of ferrous metal somewhere if you want to use a magnetic bag. I've a small 6" plate that I screw on using an existing hole when needed.
That's some going Notes: Loading capacity = 10 Kg per pannier/topcase. Max.speed = 180 Km/h with panniers and/or topcase mounted.
I did 240kph on the autobahn fully loaded with the Ducati panniers and top box and no weave. Maybe because riding solo or just because I didn't go above the magic 150mph! Bike still pulling strongly and would have gone faster but I chickened out!
I also didn't like the look of the Givi rack. I got a Hepko and Baker one which doesn't have the extra arms. The version I have has got an additional grab rail as well. Comparison with Standard Top box
If you fit an SW Motech rack to the Ducati grabrail, they also make a Givi rack that bolts straight onto this so a Givi case can be fitted without the rails. I guess the rails are there for a reason though if you carry weight in the topbox.
I reckon the arms are to combat the wind pressure? I have the SW plate and Givi adapter and the SW plate has a "very minor" bend in it, after the last fixing points. I never overload it, so it must be down to high speed riding?
I did a indicated 147MPH on the Autobahn. When I got home I discovered I'd lost one mounting screw but it was just as firm without it... I noticed there was a sticker in the box warning me not to exceed 85MPH... oh well!
