Thinking of treating my bike to the scu update for the 2014 session. Would appreciate any feedback from owners who have this scu fitted for some time so can get a feel for any issues regarding reliability and any long term effect on the suspension unit etc. Cheers Guys
Hi Franksie, Had my ohlins scu fitted for about 4 months now and would say its a good and cost effective improvement over standard Much less dive on the front under hard braking in sport mode and seems better planted in long sweepers and good two up comfort in touring Had no issues whatsoever with any of the suspension components since fitting Some good info here, last few threads on post I guess suggest they may be a price rise imminent....?? http://www.ducati.ms/forums/44-multistrada/201009-ohlins-suspension-control-unit-scu-coming-3.html
Had the SCU since the summer and done over a thousand miles on it with no isssue. The bike is much more planted under acceleration, the best upgrade I have ever done.
I've had mine for about 5 months now, and have probably covered a couple of thousand miles, which isn't much of a test of longevity. However, I'd say it's the best money I've spent on my MTS and it's a huge improvement in handling, particularly in reducing front end dive (as others have mentioned). I'm so happy with my bike now that I've decided against changing it and am going to CJS later in the week for a remap, which will be the icing on the cake. I'd say go for it....
Thanks guys for all the feedback, bikes going in to the dealers for a traction control fault then will get one fitted when it returns
I am over the moon with mine, true only been a week and lets be honest have had the best weather this year has offered so far so it could be down to that too. Probably about 300-400 miles on it since fitting. Bike is more planted, and not felt the need to disengage sports mode at all - seems to soak up the bumps much better rather than being firm all the time to point it was bouncing around on the slightest bit of bad road surface (of which there is a LOT on my trip to work daily). It may be the weather, but I feel much more secure in the bends when there is a dodgy bit of road surface.
Mine threw its hand in a few months back, Getting faults on the dash. A replacement has been supplied ( it seems that quite a few peeps had problems with the unit) and i will fit it this week sometime.
I was one of the very early adopters. Travelled over 5k miles with no issues including touring in Europe and general tomfoolery one up. Great mod and recommended.
Mines still going strong after 3500 miles, great mod, much better for two up touring, ansd great in sport mode when you want to start chasing sports bikes! hehe
Had mine for 6 months and very happy. Clever effer has killed 'compression' wheelies so you've got to back the rear comp' back to get that back...but... I'm still, in Touring, getting massive dive under braking. Mind you I mash the buggers for fun because they are epically good however it overwhelms the forks. No errors though so this hasn't killed the widgets inside the forks....yet. Heavier springs perhaps? Aside from that, bloody brilliant.
Suggestion: tighten your Front Forks Preload (eg +2 full turns) before buying this gadget. Did that yesterday at a Ducati dealer and the Front Fork 'diving' is gone. Anyone who has done the above , and then fitted also the SCU? Is it still worth the money?
Where are people getting their SCUs from? The only Ducati dealer in Scotland doesn't (AFAIK) supply and fit non-OEM stuff (I asked them about the uprated Mutley rear spring), so I'd like to order online - recommendations? Tx
Got mine from Genial Motor - DUCATI MULTISTRADA 1200 S 2010 > ÖHLINS SUSPENSION UPGRADE UNIT - Front Shock Absorbers - ÖHLINS - Online Shop - Genialmotor Italy based, but was here pretty quick (ordered 29th delivered 5th) and is cheaper than the UK suppliers - think it was FTR or P&H I spoke to when sourcing and they wanted around the price as above, plus VAT on top coming in just north of £300. Piece of pee to fit, disconnect battery lead, left side seat fairing off, unplug, plug in new one. 5 minutes. Then spend about 30 minutes reconfiguring all your sports/touring/enduro/urban modes (and for each luggage/pillion combination - I just did my single rider and rider plus luggage as I will never carry a pillion most likely) to use setting "1" which enables the automatic mode. Mess about with trying to set the clock to the right time, which is a pain in the rear as it's unlike any of the other menu systems on the bike - complete fail on Ducati's part it could have been so much easier than it is, and finally reset your speedo etc back to MPH units.
Thanks - that's about £40 cheaper than UK price (I get the VAT back ). I'm planning to move my most frequently used personal settings to the Urban & Enduro modes (Sport solo, Touring two-up loaded, Track, Wet Track) so that I can see just what difference the SCU makes. I've also ordered the heavier rear spring which will give me a better range of preload adjustment.
I had considered doing the same, but then thought, what the hell I will probably never use all the modes anyway - hasn't been out of sport for weeks now, don't want those sportsbike riders getting away from me at the traffic light grand prix when I am in Urban
I refitted my replacement SCU the other day, Are you supposed to set the preload to 1 the same as the other setting as i cant remember what i did last time... memory fade- alzeimers !
