1200 Is There Much Difference Between The 1200 And 1200s

  1. I looking for my first multistrada and I was wondering if people think there is much difference in the ride between a s and non s bike??

  2. got the base and love it

  3. What drdaveboy boy said. ABS model, once suspension sorted just leave alone. ( I don't do 2 up mind).

  4. I don't do two up but I'm 6'2" and thick end of 20 stone!!

  5. 6'2" and thick end of 16 stone! Lol.

  6. loads, the skyhook is ace and no amount of suspension work would get close imho. The way it manage everything without any adjustment is super

whether slowing for a petrol pump or lifting the rear into Melbourne Loop the amount and rate of dive and rebound was the same. Convinced me

  7. Wasn't around when I took the plunge but must confess I'd be tempted if I could afford it now.

  8. I wanted a std one and was going to get heated grips and a could of other bits, rode it and loved the ease of change on the fly. Faster you go, better it works.

  9. As above, but also makes for a very comfy ride. 2500 miles in 7 days and no sore bottom!

  10. Just done 2500 miles around the Dolomites and I have to say the roads threw everything at the skyhook and it swallowed it all and asked for more, even riding at a good pace down the B500 in the Black Forest with panniers and a top box never got the sussies out of shape!

Having said that I haven't ridden a standard bike so I can only give you my experience for what it's worth.

I have owned a 2010s and now a skyhook, the ohlins with the scu fitted was very smooth! The skyhook more stable if that makes any sense.

    Pete.

  11. just done belgium france germany and nurburgring 2 months ago , wales and yorkshire last month still don't feel the need for anything more than the base , my riding tends to be fastish road and touring although not going to break any lap records if anything I've found the heated grips more needed , £3k is a lot of cash or 3 big euro trips this makes this easier to decide , I've tweaked my suspension and feel this will be adequate for all my riding

  12. That's with skyhook, I'm talking about the version before

  13. I've had both and didn't want the sky hook but after trying to set the standard up to do everything it can't but the skyhook job done can't fault it if you can afford it get it .if not still a good bike just have to put up with one setting for all roads :)

  14. Just to add to me confusion I've been offered a 13 plate gs1200 with all the toys for just over 10k.

  15. 3k means lots of Apple Strudel as well Dave!

  16. Standard 13 model and very happy. Set the suspension up in Germany last year (two up) and just gave a little fine tune recently for one up use. Another Alps trip in 2 weeks time. Great bike.
Mine is set up a bit firm, works superb at speed now. Low speed damping not so great...don't go slow ;) Not enough of an issue to justify another 3k, for me anyway.

  17. no confusion, nor comparison, there. Power, looks, reliability, well no worse than the Germany effort anyway and its fast! Oh and it handles.

Don't know about pre skyhook but given the choice of factory fit, and no spending on upgrades, I'd take ohlins over other any day

  18. There are three, possibly four (?), flavours. 2010-2013 Standard and S and 2013 and later Skyhook (+ Standard ?) They are all different.

The riding modes on my 2012 Multistrada S do make a big difference, depending upon the nature of the road, and I have no regrets in going for the S. I haven't ridden a Skyhook so can't comment but everyone who has is very complimentary.

  19. 2010 with ohlins scu and I love it. Rode my pals skyhook pikes peak and found it a little harsh and firm for my liking, but you can tell it's doing its thing. Also rode a 2010 non S and found it surprisingly compliant once it had been set up correctly.

  20. To be fair I had a 04 gs 1200 and it did handle, just not very fast!!!
