I am contemplating an Airhawk for my Euro trip next month. Can anyone confirm what size best suits the MTS1200 please ? I am a little confused (not hard) by the info on the web site as the fitments seems to be American bias with cruiser size comparisons.
Psy, I see you are not so far away from me so if you want to have a proper look let me know. If you are going to buy one and can stretch to the premium neoprene version then it is worth the extra.
Thanks for your time in uploading pics and the info Daffy. You have also anticipated my next question as to which version . Cheers for the offer of having a look, think the pictures have everything I need. Many thanks.
... or try one of these: http://www.danmedicasouth.co.uk/category/motorcycle-seat-pads/ I got one. Much cheaper and quite effective, although I believe the quality is not as good.
Just did 2,300 miles through Europe on the Ducati Performance Comfort seat, combined with a pair of cycling shorts and no hint of a numb bum. This throttle lock was the best investment I made (if he doesn't have any listed you can send him a message and he will respond): BMW 1200GS Motorcycle Throttle Lock Cruise Control | eBay
There must be a better way to get some comfort than giant bubble wrap in a black bag. Near me there are a few companies who will resculpt seats using memory foam inserts while you wait and recover as needed. I know it's hidden under your arse but these air hawk things look like they alleviate piles discomfort. The MTS seat is not as comfortable as the BMW GS for very long mileage but I'd say cycling shorts would help, if you need air bubbles under your ring, the problem probably needs medical intervention before buying these.
Saddleman seat...see my other thread. Adventure Track Seat (2 pc- 2up)- Brand Fitment: Ducati Model Fitment: MULTISTRADA 1200 Year
I have seen the seat @AirConTechnical uses and it's a neat solution if you want the gap down the middle, looks factory rather than an add on as well obviously.
I must admit the "bidet" gap down the middle does look odd when I'm not on the bike. However with these +25°C temperatures we are having it really helps with keeping the old nads in tip top cool condition. You get support on your buttocks and arse, while keeping a good air flow....over to the jokers now.
The same principle is used on mountain bike saddles, the gap in the middle makes a big difference for longer term comfort. It wouldn't be a bad idea for Ducati to make an option seat with a central section hollowed out slightly. All the air hawk etc are doing is using the same principle to create comfort. I'd suggest either a new seat of having two sections of memory foam placed down the sides would work the same. I won't joke about Aircon's nads, I prefer a more difficult target for my satire.
The great advantage of inflatable types is that you can adjust the inflation pressure to harder or softer, according to what you find most comfortable at the time. All fixed-padding seats, including gel types, are non-adjustable so even if they seem very good they may not feel comfortable after a series of long rides. Also the inflatable types can be quickly put in place or removed, even in the middle of a ride, plus they are cheaper. On balance I would go for an inflatable, to widen the range of options.
If I had exclusive knowledge of this subject I'd be able too afford one of every model of Ducati. As I have partaken of the flesh type females i can only afford two.
Don't those Adventure seats just fill with water when its wet? And does the Airhawk make the seat even higher or not?
Oh yes they do. My brother decided to wash my MTS1200 as it was looking too dirty for a Ducati (he has also put GS stickers all over my toolboxes and workshop...the little scamp). Well after changing into my leathers I sat on the suede seat to instantly have a soaking wet arse. No the Gully doesn't hold water, but does act as the perfect reservoir until all the water soaks into the Suede leather. Apart from that....it's great. I never plan to ride in the rain. It's uncomfortable and more dangerous. If I get caught out in it, so what...I get a wet arse, feet, neck and hands.
