'new' Silencer - What Do You Think?

  1. Hello All,
Though you might be interested to see an addition to my bike.
My plan is to core the old silencer and re-use it to keep the look of the bike as near standard as possible. So I could still use the bike in between, I picked up this Scorpion silencer off ebay. In an attempt to not have it stuck out like a sore thumb I satin polished the body on my lathe, re-packed it, made an internal plate bracket with a couple of studs stuck out so the existing exhaust bracket could be used instead of the strap that came with it. I also dumped the finishing straps that go around the ends & fastened everything up with stainless rivets.
I've put a DB killer as one wasn't fitted when I bought it, not re jetted the carb but checked the plugs last night after a run and the colour was spot on.
In hindsight I wish I had shortened it a little, its probably an inch or two longer than the standard silencer.
The best bit is that it sounds bloody awesome!! Not too loud but a nice deep rumble.
The plan with the old silencer is to make new internals so its straight through.
    Thanks
    G.

  7. Looks a really nice neat job.
Can I ask please, 63 perforated pipe, is that the diameter of the pipe? It looks as though whatever you used matches nicely with the outlet.
Is your model of bike fitted with carbs? If so did you re-jet?
120mm is almost 5" I think, they certainly don't look too short, in fact I think they look well in proportion!
I'm going to make a start on mine over the next week or so, at the moment I still have the replacement silencer on which sounds great, it has the db killer in at the moment, I'm really tempted to try it without although I don't want to upset the mixture (if it might) after having a good run last week and checking the plugs they were a better colour than with the standard exhaust!! Maybe the jetting has already been altered, it's not something I've checked yet.
Cracking job acelav, I have something to aspire to now!

  8. hi g yes 63 was the dia of the pipe will try and dig out wear I got it from and the exhaust wrap which was a handy one as it expanded to fill the pip when it got hot , if you have a look at the standard pipes it has Ducati on the end that's what I cut off was the name , mine is the injection model so did not have to do any thing with the settings. when you do do it make sure that you mark up the link pipe as to were it meets the can as it took me a long time to get it back in the right place as the angle will change were the hanger sits ,also take off the hanger brackets or you cant take out the inside as it is bolted through the can STUART PS were are you in the country????
