  1. to be honest im sad to see it go, especially with the good weather here. But im always uneasy about the bike from my 3rd year warranty ran out. Too many "what if's" in my head to be relaxed with owning one.
Plus I got good money for it, so I will wait and see what the new BMW s1000 adventure bike is like and if im not impressed then will buy a '15 multi with an extended warranty which makes ownership more content.

    ride safe!

  2. Don't forget most problems are reported and discussed on here (if not most, then all of them are).
    2010 MTS1200S 30K miles....still going strong...engine no problems...
Hope you come back to the MTS gang

  3. Just buy the warranty and enjoy. I agree with AirCon, a lot of forums give a false impression of vulnerable bikes and that simply is because problems are reported more than content riding.

  4. I can relate to your decision Uni, I did exactly and felt exactly the same, have known now of 2 engines needing heads, out of the 2 I know! Its a shame as I thought it was a keeper. Got a KTM 990 smt now, its good but not as comfy or fast as the multi.

  5. A bit of an over cautious approach imvho, but it's a free world and each to their own etc, blah, blah.....

Mine had new cylinder heads at 15k (5k ago) and has suffered "most" of the other reported faults, but reading on the GS forum, those things go pop (especially in the gearbox department) as well, as do most other brands in some form or other?

The heady, 1990's days of near infallible Japanese motorbikes (which I used to buy) as buy, ride, forget machines are long gone (plus they don't have a decent Adventure bike).

It's a two headed coin, one side you lose shed loads in depreciation swapping bikes every 2/3 years and the other, you run the risk of an expensive repair, which isn't commensurate with the value of your 4/5/6 plus year old bike?

  6. its not a money issue when you can just jump on something with the confidence if it breaks the manufacture has to fix it. Puts that extra bit of enjoyment in to ownership..

  7. very true...but at least bmw were pro active on a blanket recall.... i know ducati has the attitude of "if it breaks we'll fix it!

  8. Makes a change, given their firm denials of EWS/fuel pump relay/engine cover corrosion issues in the past.
