So who's confirmed for WDW 2014, and what are your plans?

  1. Tempted to give it a go, but I dont fancy it if its just a bimble around. Saying that, a go as fast as you want doesnt sound too inviting either :)

  2. You might just as well book a session, Matt, just to have the option. Don't have to go on track on the day if you don't feel like it.

  3. You can also book a go in the Lambo Taxi while you're there...

  4. I'm hoping to go, riding down from Geneva either via the Tunnel du Mont Blanc to Turin or the autoroute towards Grenoble or the Col de la Forclaz after Chamonix if the tunnel is closed, which it often is. For anyone thinking of riding it, the Italian riviera is very slow and is stop/start all along. The autostrada in the hills above it is a much better choice; full of tunnels and long sweeping viaducts.
Anyone planning to go from this area or keen to meet up?
Depending on timing I'll be riding either my 998 if it's registered or 1098R if JHP have sorted it!

  5. Three weeks today and I'm hoping to be rather drunk in Rimini!

  11. Im assuming we should try and arrange some meet ups when we get there. I know there are those of us going down in groups, plus also those who are going on our own. Some of us, like myself, will not really have access to the forum, so phone numbers will probably be required. I fully understand that its not that advisable to post the numbers on an open forum, so PM/conversations are probably best.
If anybody wants mine drop me a PM. I already have a few, but the more the merrier @Pete1950 and @nuttynick I need/want yours for example if thats okay so by the time you read this, i'll have sent you each a message

  12. If the 2014 WDW is anything like the 2012 one, among the marquees in the Misano paddock will be an "International" one for DOC Clubs with seating areas set aside for French, German, etc and Brits. The Brit section would be a good place to meet up - I suggest at 12.00 noon on each day (not wanting to hang around there all day!).

  13. Matt, I've text you mine, and I've already got Peters assuming it's not changed. Anyone else want to swap numbers, preferably if you look like Kelly Brook ;-)

  14. I have just been invited to visit a friend who lives at Horgen, just south of Zurich, on the way back so may drop in there on 22 July perhaps for lunch. No too far off the route I had in mind anyway.

  15. Today (Friday) I have ridden 450 miles (mainly in the rain) plus the tunnel crossing. Now at hotel in Eastern France not too far from Switzerland. Just had a superb meal in a favourite restaurant here. Looks like more rain Saturday and Sunday which may diminish the thrill of Alpine riding, but surely it will be warmer and drier as I get down into Italy. I plan to be at Pompeii (near Naples) by Tuesday evening.

  16. Today (Saturday) I am in Switzerland chez Gliddofglood & Mrs Glidd, being hospitably entertained. Glidd took me for a ride-out around some of the local twisties, which he knows well - great fun.

  17. Today (Sunday) after taking my leave of the delightful Glidd & Mrs Glidd, I first took in some deserted dry country roads in SW Switzerland passing by Gruyere, then crossed into Italy via the Great St Bernard (the pass not the tunnel) which I had not seen since 1969 - it's not changed though. I have got as far as Ovada (not far from Genoa). Done about 850 miles since Friday morning, another 450 miles and I'll be in Naples.

I am really glad I refreshed the brake pads last Tuesday, they get a real hammering down these Alpine passes. Anyone about to set off for WDW: Check those brakes!

    Multistrada absolutely faultless so far.

  18. Don't you have a camera Pete? A picture paints a thousand words.

  19. Today (Monday) I rode down the 'leg' of Italy to about the knee - staying at a hotel in Frosinone near MonteCassino, only 100 miles short of Pompei so an easy ride tomorrow morning. A few extremely heavy rainstorms with lots of spray and standing water - a bit like UK really. Glad I brought reasonably effective waterproofs. As you go south in Italy, the grass gets less green, the roads get more bumpy, and the houses look more tatty.

Finding a hotel for the night in a strange town is usually easy but this evening took a fair bit of hunting about - another idea is asking the barman in a bar, they always know of a hotel somewhere. The food in these Italian restaurants is so excellent I am at risk of overeating at dinner. I try to make up for it by not having lunch. Done a bit over 1,200 miles since Friday morning.

Well OK, this is one of the Italian side of the Great St Bernard Pass yesterday. The Italian (south) side has pretty good crash barriers, but the Swiss (north) side has no barriers and very long drops. You just must not make any mistakes there!
