Never really understood personalized plates. The only point of the plate is so that you can be caught for offences you may have committed. Why would you make them easy to read? I might pay a premium for something like INMIIN though, or MMWNMI.
I hate the boy racer plates in some stupid font .. Should read " this is really my Mums car she lets me borrow it and pimp it as long as I can get the speakers out of the boot for her weekly tesco shop innit" I just popped it up as I presume this applies to undersized plates as I know some Ducati owners do run with smaller plates.
I rather like the approach of the state of California - you can have any combination of numbers and letters you like (so long as it's not already in use or obscene etc.) at no extra cost. So there is no market in 'personalised plates'.
...and I definitely don't like the system used here .... Having seen the adverts that say "get the number you've always wanted from just £250", I contacted the DVLA and asked if a certain 3 letter 3 number (sons initials/birthday.month) sequence was available and if so, what price would it be.... they said it hadn't been issued, and so I could apply for it to be released and as it was un-issued, would likely cost me £250. I did, and they then sent me a letter saying that "because of outside interest" it wouldn't be £250, but would now cost me £3000 ........ I told them where to stick it ........ at least twice a week for nearly 6 months afterwards I was contacted by a company specialising in number plates who said they would sell me the same number for what started out at £6000, and finally dropped to £3000 ..... I told them where to stick the plate as well. As far as I know they've still got it, and can keep it. I'm sure it was complete coincidence and I'm not suggesting in any way shape or form that the DVLA is running a scam with some friends in the trade, but you go figure for yourselves....... Back on topic - never seen any sense in giving plod an excuse to pull you over, so never had anything other than standard size/font number plate on any vehicle I've owned.
My car personal plate was £50......OK, if I want to put it on the bike, it would cost for the transfer; but it would be pointless on the bike, because it spells my name backwards, so it only works if seen from the car mirrors in front..... .....but it was so cheap, I had to have it....that's the advantage of having an obscure number....at least it was to the divs that sold it to me. Anyway even if I did put it on the bike, it would have to be the proper size etc etc and the current bike one is undersize, but with all the correct BS numbers. AL.
I would never have one on the bike, but I do have one on the car, my dad brought it for me 20 years ago to apologize for being mean to me, long story not worth repeating. It was before I was married so the initials do not mean anything any more, but I keep it because it is the only time my dad has ever said sorry for anything!
Yes, like anyone normal could afford that???? No much more simple K1 (for Katie) then my initials which start with a C because my name is Catherine, but don't ever expect me to answer to it because I never have.
and exactly how is this going to cut down on accidents or recovering stolen vehicles????? our car was ripped off earlier this year and had legitimate plates and was never picked up on any number plate recognition cameras total bloody bollix and a total waste of police resources maybe investing in more number plate recognition cameras would be a better use of police resources
The law states only the size of the letters and the size of the space between them and around them it don't specify between square or rectangle for motorcycles if anyone can find this info on gov.net please post the link or copy it
Displaying your registration number : Directgov - Motoring It is not specific to front number plates. Also.....http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/plates.htm scroll down. and....http://www.rcsolicitors.co.uk/RTA-claims/motorcycles/offence-guides-2/numberplate.htm I think that's enough.... AL.
