Exhausts

  1. Fancy something a bit louder than stock but a bit of quick reading and I'm a bit lost. Am I right in thinking it's not as easy as slapping a slip on on the bike as with others, but this will cause fuelling issues. Is this right??

  2. If you just replace the end can it will make no difference in sound or fuelling. You have to decat the bike and either fit a decat pipe and end can or go for the full termi system. The termi comes with a fuel program. If you go for the decat option it is a lot cheaper, to get the benefit you will need to get the fuelling looked at by someone like Chris at CJS near Bristol or Wilf at Motorapido in Winchester. I changed mine for an SC project road legal with a removable baffle, I had it fuelled and it is a different bike. Much smoother, more power. You will not need to have to worry about exhaust valves and 02 censors if remapped as these can be deactivated. Wilf has a map for the SC pipe that he has spent time developing, not sure if Chris has the same. Without the baffle it is definitely a bit fruity! I use ear plugs on longer trips so negate the noise as without the baffle it breaths more easily.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Right ok. So in the way other bikes sound completely different with just a slip on, the MTS doesn't sound any different with say a termi end can?? Find that hard to believe else what's the point? Or is the stock end can already pretty 'open'. I'm close to Bristol so maybe I'll give CJS a buzz and chat it through with them.

  4. It's true! The end can is for looks, even if you keep, the exhaust valve open it makes little or no difference. This because of the huge catalytic converter. The stock can is open but thwarted by the aforementioned cat. There is also a decat kit available from a guy called Ben who Chris knows. He also had kit for sale on eBay. I think you can choose your end can of the correct diameter and make it fit, depending on what you fit depends on the sound it makes.

  5. You don't say the year of bike but I have just bought a second hand standard system, had the box cut open and the cat taken out, also removed the exhaust flap valve and at moment just using the standard twin tips, sounds quite deep, not overly loud but a much better noise.

I will probably fit the Termi slip-on later to make it look better. Total cost to date £96.

Fuelling much better, this is a twin spark bike, maybe slightly less engine braking.

I have got a full Termi system from my 2010 bike, which I'm going to keep for the moment just in case I want something a little more fruity!

Also no exhaust valve error either!

  6. Thanks both. Mine's a 2012 bike
