hi, my bike (Ducati 848 EVO 2010) idles fine but today has began to misfire at constant or advancing throttle high and low revs. it started only at high rpms but then just happened every couple of seconds at any rpm it would then stop but come back in a few seconds. When the misfire happens it feels like hitting the rev limiter or hitting false neutral for a brief second and sometimes the headlight will turn off as the misfire occurs, the tachometer/rev counter also blinks off however the rest of the dash stays illuminated. My guesses are ignition or fuel delivery possibly fuel pump however it seems unlikely that this would make the headlight flicker. i am also confused as if it is an electrical fault why does it not get worse at higher rpms unless it is possibly an alternator or battery issue? if anyone has any suggestions of what i should check or try to fix please let me know, thanks.
And as I always recommend, fit a new relay for the coils/injectors/fuel pump as they are all fed by the same relay.
Reg/Rec as above, check the charge rate through the dash, if light/dash goes out when it happens see if it registers overcharge.
The charge rate is normal and the bike only starts doing it after about 10 minutes of riding and apperas to be worse in warmer weather, where are the earth connections to check? How should i be checking the r/r just by charge rate measured from the battery with a multimeter? Thank you fpr your replys
Did you buy a replacement ducati regulator rectifier, or the japanese unit that is apparently better, also how much did it cost you?
As a late update for anyone that may have the same problem in the future this was the crank position sonsor, resistance test the sensor while wiping a forrous metal past it if you get an intermittent open circuit replace the sensor.
