1199 Screen Change

  1. So I'm Wanting to change the standard screen to a MRA light grey option, Question, anyone already done the change?, it looks like removing the existing screen is not straight forward, it looks like the top half of the fairing has to be removed to get to the front screen bolts and nuts, would appreciate some guidance anyone can offer.
     
  2. I believe its a right pain to change. Maybe best to let your dealer do it, may cost a bit more but they then have the stress / hassle.

  8. I have an MRA dark tint screen on mine. They come with the push in and lock plastic fittings instead of the screen bolts that fasten the stock screen on. There's no need to remove the nose cone. I managed to get the two bottom bolts out (the tricky ones) simply by unscrewing them. You can reach the others no problem. I reused the original screen bolts for the upper bolt holes and used the push in ones supplied with MRA screen for the two lower ones. It's a reasonably straight forward job. The hardest bit is those bastard mirrors that you need to remove first and then refit!.
     
  9. No the bike was 10 months old. I can't just remember how it looked now but once the screen is out can't you fish the rubbers out then?, besides does it matter if the rubbers are left floating in the back of the dash if the new screen comes with new fixings?
     
  10. Not wanting to side track but how the hell are you supposed to top up the coolant level, does the nose have to come off for that, because there looks to no room to even get the cap off nevermind get anything into it as the side panels of the nose cone sit right on top of it!?.

Thanks guys, job is all done, I had the MRA screen but decided to re use the existing screws and not the fixings that came with the screen, didn't even have to remove the fairing, I super glued the rubber nuts to the new screen and jobs a goodun. Like said, the bastard mirrors took the time getting the wiring all snug again, but hey oh, please with the results and it's happy days. Now what's next I wonder:rolleyes:

  12. Grahamf....how did you get to the rubber inserts at the bottom of the screen?
     
  13. Easy i used a long nose/ needle point set pliers grip the rubber insert then use the alen key to remove the bolt. Making sure you dont loose grip on the rubber insert carefully remove the insert then repeat all the way around, :upyeah:
     
  14. How do you gain access to the lower rubber inserts tho??
     
  15. With long nose pliers the ones i have got are Facom they are about 10-12" long (the pliers that is) not my body parts:eek: i wish!
     
  16. Ok but where do you enter?
     
  17. take the mirrors off loosen/ remove the top screws then flex the nose left and up to get your pliers down above the dash to the inserts grip then remove the screw, i promise you it does work i changed my screen a month ago without taking the nose off. A bit of a job but you can do it
     
  18. Great thanks!! Did you glue them onto the screen when refitting or just grip them with the pliers ??
     
  19. No just held them tight whilst doing up the screws
